Thread: Speed vs COB?

Am working my way towards Swordsman. I'm wondering if the defense tree or the technique tree would be more appropriate to start off with. I've heard some say speed is more important than anything else, but I've also heard the COB can make you almost unhittable at higher levels. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Tech... speed kills, plus you get the head hits. Makes the grinding a breeze.

I am doing the defense tree all the way before I touch techniques. It is not just the fact that you get better COB, but you also get the other defense mods. I am not a 100% sure how those other mods work but I seem to get hit a ton less then I did. Much easier to get the XP now for the other trees.

Thanks for the info. Was playing with my new shiny 2H axe yesterday. Couldn't get the COB to hold, andI missed a ton, but when I hit it was harddddd

Still working my way through 2-Handed in brawler tree, but at the rate I'm going it won't take long to hit novice, then I can start having some real fun

The only other thing you can consider getting are the area attacks, in offence one and 2. But this is after you get the speed. Getting good armor, and doc/dancer buffs, or the right food/drink/spice combo you can kill many things at once for added xp. The defence line is only for PVP, or I guess if you have no armor... But if you don't have armor, then you shold really be killing one thing at a time anyhow, and hence don't need the def. I leveled with speed, def, offence, but I was into pvp. In hind sight I prolly still would have done it that way cus I couldn't afford good armor, and hence couldn't stand in the middle of 17 huurton and kill them all at once.

SPEED SPEED SPEED.....dont even waste your time with anything else till you finish the tech tree. The more you hit in big groups the more xp you get....the defenses can wait.

Yeah no kidding your blowing your time getting defense first. Just buff up and armor up and muon up and eat up and spam the spin attacks. Believe me you won't have enough aggros on you to satisfy your sword.

Personally I got intermediate techniques first for head hit 2, and am going to master defense line next. With all that counterattack and now damage mitigation, the defense line is off the hook.

Heh, it's so funny how times have changed. At first I used to tell everyone the offense line was the best, cause domination was so awesome. Then after the posture down/KD timer, techniques became the best line. But now with counterattack and mitigation, defense is definately our best line, lol.

I went Techniques 2 first for the 15 speed. Then I gained Offense 4 for the area attack. Then I get missions, run up to the lair and do Area Attack 3 on it over and over. All the mobs spawn and start hitting me, and get hit by the Area Attack 3 in the process. Process repeats over and over for easy massive exp. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITHOUT BUFFS. ESPECIALLY mind buffs from food. Then finished off speed, then went Defense.
