Thread: SWORDSMEN'S ROUND TABLE: Are swordsmen too weak and vulnerable and dont gain enough XP ?

My number one problem is more of a meele problem overall, which is that we get pounded on by mobs, deal less damage than (overall, not per hit), and are less effective in PVM than ANY ranged users. I wont even go into PVP. We either need to get more defense/toughness or some way to NOT DIE, we cant kite like ranged guys.

Here comes my opinion and experiences regarding this matter:
Ever since beta3 i've been hanging around and going out for hunts with 2 marksmen buddies of mine and my experience is that swordmen are rather well balanced these days.
Yes...it's true, as being brawlers we ARE ususally the first going down, if at all, because in the end our profession IS close and not ranged combat. But i'm also noticing that every time i get incapped or slained by an opponent, it takes much shorter time compared to me for my fully armored buddies (i wear almost no armor at all)to go down, considering also the fact that their HAM bar remains almost unaffected (besides the damaged caused by specials) until i go down.
As you might also know, some of the races out there are better fitted for brawling than others and the stat migration permits us to experiment with different settings.
As i mentioned earlier i'm not really a friend of armour and the only armour i'm wearing are my boots. Recently i have noticed that my char seemed to go down faster than before and last night while i was going through the condition stats of my bone armor boots i noticed that they had gone down to 0 and i bought myself some chitin boots on bazaar. After that i definetly noticed a difference and the loss on my HAM bar wasn't as extreme as in the days before. Yet i'm gonna leave it at my boots, because, call me stupid, i also lay very much importance on looks...hehe
A couple of days after release and having gained my first couple of boxes i pushed my buddies to form a group and go Sharnaff hunting on Corellia. Sharnaffs look a bit like Brontosauruses and you can find em in different variations on other planets. The reason i did that was because in Beta they used to give me a couple of thousand xp.Big was my disappointment when i realized that i only got 90 XP for the first Sharnaff downed and it didnt get much better with the ones after...i think max i got in the end was 200. Xp payout had been nerved compared to beta but to that extent ?
These days when we're going for sharnaffs i do get from 900xp upwards, but i'm not sure whether it's due to the fact that a group xp bug going around for awhile has been fixed or simply because my hitpoints have increased ever since and correct me if i'm wrong: xp are distributed in relation to damage caused and pl
Which brings me to my last point regarding this matter:
Recently my 2 buddies acquired each one probot and i have to admit that it spoils a bit of my fun when going out hunting with them these days.....Yes...of course it's great to be able to hide behind one of those bots when your HAM bar is going down and let it bind the target. Yet one also needs to be aware that with it big hitpoints and its durability it's stealing xp from you and i think in the end not as much as another brawler in the group would for example. Fortunately those bots are gonna get nerved now *g*
Oh.....and one very last point i have noticed regarding this point which just came to my mind:
I have often compared my marksman buddy's XP payout with mine and sometimes it would happen that i would get 1k for example, while he would only get 200. I think lot of it is also due to the fact thatour scales of Xp's to acquire for the next skill box differ quite a bit: while i have to go for numbers like 175k for my next box, he only has to go for 20 or 30k....so i guess relationwise my payout seems to be fine compared to his.
I think in the light of all this you will understand my opinion i stated above about this subject.
Again: this is my PERSONAL opinion to this subject and i hope gathering all you people's opinion here will give us a clearer picture if we DO have an issue here or not.
Btw...last night i downed with some medical help behind me a grand wrix on corellia....payout was around 3k xp ![]()
Tell you what a Swordsman best friend in battle is without doubt a medic. The team i worked with last night was wonderful. If you need two friends take a TKA student with you. Because they can cause nice status effects while you hammer away at the pools. We had a master Medic as well so even if i was to die, i came back up without the fear of cloning. Myself i got wonderful XP last night on Naboo, north of Theed. Bout 500xp was the min while 2014 was the max XP i got for one kill last night. The most damage i did last night..1900 on a Rebel Major.
So i'm gaining TONS of Xp, yet i am getting attacked all the time, but that's the payment for being a beast. So my suggestion is if you are going out take a medic and TKA with you. We had a total of about 6 people before i left and we were taking down rebel's left and right. With the bigger groups we took down some of those bolli bolli creatures and a Fammba. Just tip your medic well and i assure you, you will have a friend for life when you are being attacked. I went down only twice and that was because the medic didn't see me in another battle at the time. *laughs*
I am an accomplished medic as well as a swordsman and wear a full suit of chitin, but before these 2 developments I felt I did fine in combat. At Master 2handed, I could take 4 white con monsters at the same time without dying or equilibriuming. I think considering the extreme levels of melee toughness we get, we are really butch right now at soaking damage. Especially zabraks like myself who have defenses vs dizzy and stun etc and of course vitalize and equilibrium.
I'm a 2-0-0-1 swords man with a 35 - 175 @ 3.3 speed curved sword. I've group with several different TKA's around the same equivelent level and I have to say that their damage output, tanking ability, and HAM costs comparitively are a lot better then swordsman. I believe each should have their strength's and weaknesses but what I've seen so far is that TKA's when compared to swordsman have all strengths and no weaknesses. I'm not a fan of nerfs and think TKA's are fine as they are, swordsman need increase in either damage output or tanking ability. Sure, I do hit occasionally for 2000+ damage, but inbetween my swings, the tka is hitting on average for 200 - 300 a hit without using any special attacks. When using a special I've seen from 500 - 1000 damage from them. They generally get in 4 to 6 attacks to my 2. In general, I think all of the other brawler professions needs tweaking to be up to par with a TKA. Anyhow just my 2cp.
I for one like the XP gained by my profession, I was taking down Feral Banthas last night at 800 XP a pop, but my only concern is that Swordmans have to be almost Master to do any significant amount of damage, while other branches can do the same amount and more in their infancy.............
Just a question, how can a TK of the same skill level do more damage with unarmed combat than me and my razor tipped sword or axe? "I need to get me some of that c-c-c-cinabun!"
Hmmm, I think our damage output is pretty good. I was grouped with 19 ranged players on Endor, and I know I was outdamaging all of them, and some of them were complaining about not getting good exp, while I was raking it in.
On the other hand, I was getting hammered! Usually, we have no choice but to tank, so I think we should be made a little "tankier". We take most of the damage, we can't kite or do endless knockdowns, so we should definitely be able to take damage as well as give it out.
XP gained is equal to the amount of damage a person does to the mob. That is why we get so much more xp when we take them on. However the high xp comes at a drawback - we are agroed first and are forced to take all the damage. I was killing dune banthas with my marksman friend and i would get upwards from 1k xp while he would only be getting 200 or so. However i still think that we need to get armor or more defense. I purchased ubese armor a week ago and wasnt taking as much dmg as i used to and i was like wow cool. But i started to realize how slow my ham bars were regenerating and how i wasnt doing as much dmg as i used to. It suddenly came to me that the encumberence of the armor was killing my stats. The dmg that i do is great...usually around 500-700 for regular attacks and 2k-3k for 2handhit2. I only have int defense so i think its pretty good. My sword is 79-306 so that helps. The biggest gripe i have with swordsman is that we miss WAY TOO MUCH. I know i can take out a white con with one 2handhit2 but if i miss the first one i lose a ton of action and my health starts going down. Then i see the -Miss- pop up over the mobs head again, frustrating if u ask me. Oh and btw i once did 5k dmg to a imp captain, but it was only once =)
I think its this way for every melee profession and need to seriosly be looked at, currently a ranged person can own a melee person whenever whereever, and hunting is much easier for them.
My brother is a rifle man, he can kill yellows before they even get to him, meaning he gets a crapload of xp for killing a yellow, and take no dmg. and when the mobs almost dead what does it do? it tried to run, turning its back to my brother... while getting shot in the ass and dies.
Now i as a swordsman try to take a yellow, i run up to him start slicing, he starts hitting me right away, and then when the mobs almost dead what does it do? it turns and tries to run, only problem is while its back is to me running away, its still hitting me.. and i die.. from a RUNNING monster.. this makes no sence.. my brother can kill a monster before it even gets to me... i run up and slice a monster, and when i almost have it dead.. it runs away.. all while still hitting me with his ass or somthing and i die to a monster who has like 10mind left..
And pvp is even worst, a overt rebel rifleman sees the imperial symbol next to my name, i see him at the same time, i start running torwards him, then he shoots BAM i get hit for a crapload of mind dmg.. im still running at him... BAM i get hit for even more mind dmg... then finally i get withing 10m of him.. what does he do?? runs away.. while shooting behind him... i cant hit him cause hes running away.. i cant burst run cause ill probably kill myself doing it.. so what do i do?? nothing cause i cant do anythign.. what are my choices? well
A. i can keep chasing him.. doing no dmg to him cause he'll keep running and ill die from him shooting behind him
B. stop chasing him.. well what the hell is this going to do? nothing hes just gonna stop.. and keep firing... ending up in me dying
C. run away... well whats this going to do.. noting cause hes just gonna turn around and chase me.. ending up in me dying also...
so whats the end result? melee vs. range = range killing the melee.. without even getting hit
same scenario vs the insanly overpowered pistoleer
i see a pistoleer... he sees me..at the same.. we start charging eachother. yup thats right the pistoleer is charging me.. while hes running at me hes shoots me with healthshot 2, giving me a dot, and then shoots me a couple times with either bodyshot or stopping shot.. by the time we get in melee range of eachother, i start spamming sweep (in hopes of lowering him to kneel.. so that he cant pistol whip cause pistol whip only works while standing) so i hit him with sweep first (its a fricken miracle, most of the time they will hit first) hes goes the kneel position, then about a second later before i can get anthor hit off.. hes stand up..and pistol whips me and i fall on my back.. while im laying down.. he seems to be firing sooo fast.. due to his sliced scout blaster and high pistol speed.. so while im laying down on the ground he gets off about 5-6 shots before i can stand up again, and btw why i lasted this long (normal person would be dead) is because im also a doctor and buffed my health 1000, so i stand up.. whap.. pistol whipped again.. and while im down on the ground he finishes me off /deathblow... resulting in me doing about 300 dmg to him from the first sweep.. and him killing me without me every hitting him again.
I hunt with a few different groups and i fell that i'm fine as far as damage output and XP are concerned, sure it's taking a long time to advance, but i kinda like that, makes me feel better that i chose a tough profession to advance in, which will make me prouder when i get to Master Swordsman.
the only thing i have a problem with is the lack of decent armor, i do think we take a bit too much.
also i see nothing to gauge our armor (armor class) by, like if i put something on, someway to see if it helps or not.
