Alright guys, I've grown increasingly interested in the Squad Leader proffesion. Only trouble is, I was steadily on my way to Bounty Hunter, but I don't think it will be the right thing for me (besides the fact that 10 other people in my PA are going BH.) After looking around the different proffesions, SL caught my eye. Volatris' deep dedication to the proffesion as well as the great info he has posted around here enticed me even more. Ok, I'm almost master marksman and master scout, so I have a few questions because Im going to need to surrender a few skills (or do I?)

I read that carbine was probably the best choice of weapon for the SL and so I'll be persuing that, but I need to know if I were to surrender my pistol and rifle skill trees (which I've pretty much reached specialist in), would I also lose all that combat xp I received while using them? If that's so, then would I have to keep killing mobs with my carbine even after I achieve specialist in itto get the necessary combat xp? If I had to do this, then perhaps I should go for Novice Carbineer?

On the other hand, since I'm so close to becoming a master scout, perhaps I should go ahead with being a Ranger/Squad Leader. This sounds really appealing, but what would I do with my carbine skills...not advance them? Any suggestions would be welcome, because I need to fix up my character who was already geared towards Bounty Hunter, and the option to delete and remake is out of the question because I'd never be able to get back into Starsider. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with a Ranger/Squad Leader/Carbineer.

You will not lose the Combat XP you gained... you will lose your Weapon XP though. Don't surrender skills until you're all out of learning capacity, though Hopefully thats a long way off.

There is a serious drought of Squad Leaders (or those aspiring to become them). Mainly because its a difficult profession to advance in, for very little benefit.

If you are pursuing Squad Leader now, it is only so that when they finally rebalance it (hopefully no longer than a month or so) you will *then* be powerful.

If power is not your thing but fun is, then Squad Leader can be a lot of fun

That felt kind of rambling... did you have any other issue on your mind I did not appropriately address?

Ranger/Squad Leader/Carbineer sounds good, but I won't be able to master all 3 correct? The best thing I see myself doing right now is becoming a master Ranger, master Squad Leader, and getting as far through the carbineer trees as I can, if its possible.

Most likely.

Ask yourself what you want to be able to do.

Then ask yourself what each profession helps you do.

You may find mastering ranger or squad leader to be unnecessary for your goals...

It takes a while to gain those professions, I'm sure you'll figure out what you want to do long before you're faced with the dilemma of what to master

True, thanks for the advice. BTW, do you know of any online character building tools that let me build chars within the confines of the 250 skill points?

Google for "swg character builder"the first hit gives a good one.

Allakhazam's also has one that allows you to save your character and show it to others.
