Greetings and Salutations :-)


First of all, and not to sound negative, but I'm sure that we can agree on the need for a COMPLETE and TOTAL revamp of the squad leader profession.


That being said, I want to offer a perspective. In all the other MMORPG games I have played, there has been one class who exists for group play. The reason why these classes flourished is because they thrived on group engagements and experience, as well as the fact that players who grouped with these classes also reaped the benefits of their company.


So... what would make a SWG player want to group with a squad leader?


Here are my suggestions:


/groupCover

this would be a timed buff (like mask scent) that would work on any group member in the prone position. it would enable the squad members to shoot at a target with a chance of not being detected... that chance needs to increase as the Squad Leader moves further along in his profession.


/groupNavigation

this would be a simple command that creates and activates a waypoint for everyone in the squad which would be the same waypoint that the squad leader has activated, wether it is a mission waypoint, a POI, or whatever. Everyone needs to know where the squad leader is taking them.


/groupSingleshot

this would be a command that would only work while /groupCover was in effect. basically, the squad leader uses this command and all "groupCovered" squad members fire a SINGLE SHOT against the target the squad leader has selected. This is key. It will allow the squad leader to togle through a mass of targets very quickly. After the /groupSingleshot has been fired, each squad member is peaced, and the squad leader can decide if another shot needs fired or if another target needs selected.


/groupRation

i read about this idea somewhere on the forums, and it's gotta be put in. an ability for the squad leader to eat a food or drink a drink and the buff from that be distributed to the group. You want something that will make a Squad Leader a desirable companion? There ya go.


/groupTarget

everyone in group selects the target the Squad Leader has selected, but TAKES NO ACTION. This will allow people to move into desirable weapon ranges BEFORE the fight begins.


These are but a few of the things that would make Squad Leaders more of a wanted companion in the game. The existing group terrain neg and burst run eff is fine, but who runs anymore? Everyone is biking it.


One last thing. Every class grouped with a Squad Leader, particularly a high level one, needs to have a reason to drag this SL guy around. How about a skill enhancement for every profession while grouped with a squad leader? Doesn't have to be major, but if you can get +25 rifle speed from CHLOTHING...


Thanks for listening to this. I hope SOE really does a total revamp of Squad Leader. There is an entire world of potential with this profession.

Sure you can get +25 to Rifle speed, but you can't make the segments, you need to find them. If you can't find them then your point is moot. On the other hand your idea would give the guy who does have +25 to Rifle speed another +25. Think of that for a moment.


We have a couple of threads up that have ideas like yours in them. You should make a copy of your post and stick it in one of those posts.


Keep the ideas coming in though...

You are very right about the Rifle speed... I'm sure any group skill mod bonusses for being grouped with a squad leader would have to take game balance into consideration... but there needs to be something. There needs to be some advantage which is ONLY in effect when a squad leader is leading a group. It just makes sense to me. However it needs to be balanced, and you are correct. There is SOOOOO much potention with this profession it boggles the mind, I just want to see the Devs make the attemp.

Oh my get some riflemen on your squad. I have actually contemplated just making a squad filled with riflemen. With a few other classes for support. Ever wonder what a headshot 2 from 6 riflemen would do to a PC? a Krayt? Just assume that you have 5 master sharpshooters hitting mind for 1000 mind damage a sec= 5000 damage a sec in PvE. those 80k ham beasties wouldn't last very long, 16 seconds?

Yes good ideas all. You should check out the official discussion threads. There are ideas like yours and others. Just wondering though. My regular squad doesn't contain a rifleman, what then? Just saying that it's a good idea, but there needs to also be things for groups of different composition.
