Thread: Ranged/Melee Defense Bonuses

I've been reading about the new anti-defense stacking stuff released today, and it looks like Melee Defense bonuses now only work if you're holding a melee weapon. Same for ranged defense bonuses.

Does this apply to a Squad Leader's group bonuses also? Is this finally a chance for us to make a difference, or have they nerfed another one of our abilities that we weren't entirely sure worked in the first place?

I forget where i read it (but its on this board somewhere), that SL abilities
WILL STILL STACK.


Hopefully this'll put us on the map a lil more........

They are supposed to stack. All situational mods are supposed to stack. I know Dodge/Counterattack/Block are getting capped at +125 but I haven't heard whether this applies to the range and melee defense (Its been asked but never directly answered.) Also, D/C/B work based on the weapon in hand. Dodge for Fencer/Pistoleer weapons for example. I haven't heard that range and melee defense are based on the weapon in hand. I'd be very surprised if it were...

well let me tell you what my experience was last night with the increasede to hit bonus for melee against ranged weapons I never dodged, blocked, or had the goodfortune to miss a single attack from a creature or Pc. In my case i have+42 melee defense from the rifleman tree, +12 from my clothes, +30 from master squad leader and yes i dont fight unless i am grouped. So altogether i should have had +84 to melee defense. I havent gotten a buff for action and health since january and was very surprised last night to find out that the money and time i had invested in trying to improve my ability to avoid a melee attack is now pretty much worthless when i have a rifle equiped. On the other hand melee combatants noticed that the increased melee defense did increase the number of misses from creatures. Ie they missed about "75%" of the time. So are we just now seeing how melee and ranged defense in the squad leader tree is acting? I had already decided to drop msql the other day because i had ceased to enjoy leading the same type of parties over and over again, and am picking up brawler skills since evidently if a creature or pc gets within hitting distance my rifle is now a liability.

Based on my experiences with stackers last night, ranged/melee defenses are not limited to equiped items.


However, something interesting to note...my friend has the fencer dodge, and no pistol skills to speak of, other than master marksman. Today he equipped his pistol, and started dodging as though he had a fencer weapon in his hand...apparently the melee dodge and the ranged dodge are drawing from the same pool...


Just something I thought was interesting.

From Stractics HoC Chat Last night

[17:27] [Keldarin] In Publish 7 we added a cap for the Dodge, Counterattack, Block, Ranged Defense & Melee Defense skill mods.

[17:27] [Keldarin] These are all capped internally at 125. The UI will show a higher number, but nothing beyond 125 will count.

[17:45] [Brannoc] [Yeraze] The new defense caps, how do the Squad Leader's Group bonuses apply? Is +150 possible?

[17:46] [Keldarin] Squad Leader bonuses are in full effect. They can take you beyond the caps.
