Hello All:
I have been playing pretty much since day 1. I have played every single combat profession, save pikemen (well they pretty much sucked pre-cu, I dont know if that has changed). I even have a Jedi.
I recently switched over to Squad Leader due to the Combat Upgrade Rebalance.
I must say I love the class. Its perfect for high level dungeons, Jedi Grind sessions, and for just goofing around with my guildies.
At first I was mortified by the idea of the CU, I hated it, but I have come to appreciate that it has improved the game 100 fold, allowing for much greater variability of play. Most importantly it has made every class useful in its own way.
I play on Naritus as Jesrad, Master Squad Leader, Master Pistoleer, 0/4/0/4 Bounty Hunter.
The one thing that has absolutely shocked me about Squad Leader is the absolute lack of benefits of being a master. For Mastering this profession you get a whopping +5 Group Ranged and Melee Defense, and +10 terrain negotiation and Burst run.
This is sad compared to every other profession out there. Every prof's master box is valuable. Even the novice professions have better benefits for mastering.
For Example
Master Carbineer - +20 Melee/Ranged Def, +15 general Speed, +25 Ranged Acc
Master Rifleman - Same as above only +30 to general Acc
Master Smug - +15 Melee/Ranged Def, +15 General Ranged Acc, 10 General Ranged Speed
Master Marksman - +25 general Ranged Acc, +15 General Ranged Speed, +5 Ranged Def
I have used only Ranged professions for examples, but you will see if you look that melee professions recieve even greater benefits from mastering their skills.
I dont want Squad Leader to be the next BH. No uber attacks, this defeats the purpose of leading a squad. I Just wantthe profession to begiven the respect it deserves. I can seea fewchanges that would make the profession balanced and more useful.
For mastering SL give the SL the ability to reduce action costs of his group by 10-20% (stackable with other buffs).
Why?
I am ex-military myself. I remember doing things that I thought were well beyond my physical limit, beyond anyones limit, but I was able to do them with the leadership, and often the screaming of my section commander.
That alone would make mastering SL worth the skill points.
Also I find that steady aim is not nearly as useful as it could be. Considering most people are firing 2 attacks every 1.5 seconds.
Make this skill useful by allowing its implementation prior to combat. Considering that this is a common tactic for soldiers to use. All members of a section ( a group of 8 troops) lying in wait to ambush a vehicle convoy or group of enemy. All striking all at once with maximum precision. It just makes more sense this way.
Finally change the xp required to gain the profession to either General weapons xp, Combat, or back to Squad Leader xp. I know that the devs were most likely thinking of Lieutenants in WW1, who would bravely lead their troops out of the trenches wielding only a pistol.I think were a little past that however. Limiting the SL to pistol xp pigeon holes us as pistoleers, or painfully grinding pistol xp to achieve or mastery. Changing the XP allows for greater variability of play.
Its an excellent profession, but it is a far way from being the necessary profession for group control and efficency.

For master you get certifications for the Intimidator Pistol & E5 Carbine.
I know, it's not much, but it's something that does set us apart.. I get alot of questions "What is that pistol you're carrying?"

Realistically though every prof gets neat weapon Certs at master, so its no big deal.
Just look at Master BHs, with all their Uber weapons.
My best weapon is a Trandoshian Slaver Pistol that Is 524 dps (i think) and 734 Dps when Power up'd. More importantly though it has a Special Attack cost of only 75, compared to the intimadators 95. A huge difference IMO. Its certed at master pistoleer

drop some of those pistol skills bro, with your intimidatoryou'll find you hit just as hard and as much as you did before. then you can pick up some more support roles that go well with squadleader. alot of the unspoken advantages of the cu is hybrid proffs, some work together better than others. some even make you a better squadleader than individual. right now you've got damage dealer profs with your sl. just a thought
