I'm a new sl and I posted here and still have yet to have the magical distance question answered after several days of patiently waiting. However, an old friend in game helped me with my questions and here's what i learned..

Commands like Rally and Vollyfire work line of sight.
The innane abilities such as terrain negotiation and defenses appear to work at least planetwide. I have not tested it cross galaxy as yet as I always drag my SL alt along with me on follow.

No they don't work when the SL is on a different planet.

The magical range question as far as I can assume is 65m, due to the range that Riflemen can shoot.

I can shoot my rifle 80m, so what does that make my SL range?

Stationary alt = you don't play it, should just give you bonuses?

Then i suggest Master Tailor, Master Droid Engineer,Master Image Designer andMaster Artisan.

If you plan to play an SL, i would use the given skillpoints for 0434.

And if you wonder about my harsh response, consider this:

it is people like YOU, who lead to our profession being nerfed. The Sl is supposed to have some muscle in fighting groups, but as long as somepeople just abuse everything they can find to gain a personal advantage. This is the very reason why the Devs don't want SLs to be any good, they want balance, while some people spend a lot of effort to destroy that balance just to gain a personal advantage, no matter how small it might be... and no matter that by doing that, they will destroy that advantage in limited time, as the Devs simply will have to nerf it.

Alas, it will be like it always was, the Powergamers move around like Locusts, when they find an advantage, they use it. When the profession they used gets nerfed, they move on, leaving behind a wasteland of nerfed and destroyed professions...

Its almost weekend...
Anyway you gave me the opportunity to spam this with my favourit quote from the Smuggler forum:

Orkajum'sydef Master Smuggler wrote:

The thing is, there's more Jedi now than just about any one profession. There's definately more of them than there are of us.

What we need, more than presenting the evidence we have to counter Jedi-powergamer lies (there are respectable Jedi who play the profession as it should be), more than how many Jedi can be killed, more than even protecting LD or FD from future nerfs, is a united front.

It's time Smugglers and Bounty Hunters, Weaponsmiths and Creature Handlers, Carbineers and Pikemen, every other professional forum in this game makes it abundantly clear to the devs that any Jedi-induced nerf upon one profession will be seen as a Jedi-induced nerf on every profession. Because while the subscriptions of all the Jedi players are significant, the subscriptions of everyone else is even more significant to SOEs bottom line.

There's got to be more players out there interested in keeping this game Star Warsy and fun for every profession, than there are Jedi just out to be uber. Time to start building up that political clout we deserve with the other professions and cashing it i to bring this game back to how it should always have been.

And Sylow, check the starwars wiki. I think if realy more ppl would use it, it would do us a great favour, since SWG is to slow/incompetent to keep up with their documentary on the game (have you seen the new Handbook pdfs ?!?!).

Video games are supposed to make you happy, not bitter. My friends and I enjoy logging on our doctor to buff and heal our wounds (we're not powergamers or even PvPers)...I was just looking to add some extra skills to the toon's template that would help us. There's no need to take out your frustration on me. It seems you have too much of your emotional health invested in this "game", maybe just lighten up a bit, or take a break.

Aye. And i want to have fun in it. Though, i seenerf after nerf,at different places and professions and all of them happen as some people just find a way to gain someadvantage for themself by having an alt which is a bot and just runs one or another macro.

Just a moment. You said that the alt would be stationary somewhere, right? And that the abilities should help you, despite you not playing the char, it's just standing somewhere (probably a private house) to give you bonuses and buffs while nobody plays it? I am sorry, but if this doesn't qualify for the term "powergamer" then i never have met one of the mentioned species yet.

Hehe... if you say so... my personal statement is just that i saw more than one game being destroyed by people who programmed bots and used alts to gain powers they never were supposed to have. They degraded other players who "just played the game" to second class players, this doesn't necessarily include PvP, you can also destroy the game balance in PvE with that. Gamemasters / Devs usually respond on such unbalances bei either:

  1. nerfing the abilities which were used/abused. This leaves the mentioned ruined classes behind.

  2. adjusting the enemies, so the "upgraded" people find a challenge there again. (Devs look at the killogs, see that "rare monster XP" was killed 10 times in 5 hours, although it should be the absolute deathbringer. In response, the monster gets more health, more damage, a new ability... and gets absolutely invincible to any normal player who is not exploiting the system.)

  3. the first mentioned point happens after the second mentioned, leaving all groups out in the cold.

Play the game as it's meant to be, one player, one character logged in. (You can have a dozen alts, no problem with me, just don't abuse them by making bots...) You'll have more of a challenge, you'll have more fun, and the game will be fun for everybody.

Of course, i am aware that i am only speaking to one person here, but that's the way to do it, enlightening one after another, can't fix all at once.

i agree, to a point, with sylow. here's my opinion:

buf bots are one thing. but to use a SL bot (at a time when it isso difficult to get some love for our profession from players and Devs) just to give passive modifierswhile you go galabantingthousands of metersor even on different planets is bordering onexploitation.

and besides the passive mods wont even account for that much considering the diminishing returns formula. you're probably better off spending those skill points on a crafting profession to make money selling stuff on a vendor while you go hunt.

Good question TK. I may have to call up some old acquaintances who are riflemen/women/other and see what their range is and give it a test. What server are you on if you don't mind me asking?

The need to be on a level playing field against opponents is understandable and I can see where your coming from with having to use bots, I to have watched Jedi with upto 3 alts botting squad leader mods, CM/Doc heals and a ranged support char all macro'd .. Its a shame ... and until they get rid of Macro's and Completely nerf passive mod's then it will go on sadly.

It comes down to cheating the system in the end .. Players one minute call for balance and a small majority find ways around it, Personally I find it reflects the players attitude to his/her fellow gamers either play with honour or know nothing of its meaning
