If I were to take up a few boxes in the SL profession would that only be in effect if I am group leader. I am thinking about doing this for the defense. So would I have to be leader for this to be useful?

Any "Group XXX" mods are only active when you're the leader of the group, but all other mods (General Ranged Accuracy, Melee Defense, etc) are always in effect.

QUESTION: If I'm a bounty hunter and I start combat with my mark does those group benefits disappear as the combat is restricted to PvP 1-vs-1? ie. when I start combat with a mark no one from my group can attack that target and no one can assist me with heals

As per the 1v1 Jedi/Bh rules, of course as you state nobody in your group should be able to intervene... however if you're SL, and group leader, and grouped... you should still get the SL benefits - even in only grouped with a pet

Having said that the actual specials of SL have a variety of outcomes, as per this - just a couple of posts away... but the passive skill mods will still count

If you go for it, remember that there's little point in having anybody else as the group leader - looting rights can now be changed as is required so it's a simple case of /makeleader [your name] so long as you're within range
No good if you intend to join a solo group though, if in fact such things still exist (which would be pretty pointless)
