Thread: Should I use my /respec token out of Squad Leader?
Good Point.
The reason I'm asking is basically this.
If you were a squad leader who would you like to be on your squad?
I don't mind squad leader, but it's too much responsibility and you get tells all the time to join your squad. I no longer put up my Master Squad Leader tag, unless I want to form a ready made hunting group.
I'd rather be a follower than a leader. I want someone to really lead and point me in the right direction.
Leader: Go to Anchorhead.
Me: Okay. Me go.
Leader: Destroy Bol.
Me: Okay. Me go kill.
It's sooo much easier. Wearing a Master Squad Leader tag makes you act responsible. You have to manage your squad. Squabbles/loot/objectives. Yes, when I feel like leading, I do well, but it takes sooo much work. It's more like work than a game. I'd rather mindlessly spam damage. It is a game afterall.
I do a decent job, and I keep my group organized. If I do have a group. I keep it organized and moving. After the objectives are complete, I disband the group. People like that, it's neat tidy and simple.
So. In essence, even though Master Squad Leader is dubbed "support" wearing a Master Squad Leader tag requires so much more. You have to lead by example. You have to keep the group motivated. You have to make hard decisions (i.e. kick people from group that are not team oriented). Ensuring that objectives are neat and tidy. Organizing hunts, ensuring that your intelligence is up to date. Networking to keep your base busting team at the ready and on the go. Making sure that appointments are kept.
Do you see what I'm saying? Being a Master Squad Leader is too much work and too little fun. I'd rather have someone else organize hunts, and I just join in. I'd rather enjoy the burst run, terrain negotiation. I want someone to just tell me which base to go to.
It's so much simpler. Yes Smuggler got gimped. At the same time, I didn't quite spell out my true reasons for wanting to leave this profession. So there.
Master Squad Leaders are a unique group of people. They are dedicated, organized, and willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of their team.
I just want to go back to playing a game and enjoying the moment. I'd rather not be the central nexus for intelligence, contacts and organization of group hunts.
So the new question is- Who is most useful to you in your squad? Who would you like to be on your ultimate squad? I'll listen to your opinions and see where my /respec token goes to....

Chances are if you try for a 'template'....you'l just end up in the same boat, being limited to a specific role. So just think fun and dont worry about what people are looking for.
/agree
if its fun you're looking for you really need to pick and choose on your own. find the skill that you think is super-cool and find a way to work that into your build; pick the weapon style you like the best and work that into your build.
for instance, i like the look of pistols but think sniper shot is great. so, i'm currentlyRifleman 2020 (need that dizzy recovery too) and Marksman 4404 so that i can be good w/ pistols also. i started the build w/ Rifle 4040, the tweaked it over time since i was very weaker when using my intimidator.
but, if you're asking for our ideal group build i would have to go w/ something like this
- SL
- CM or Doc
- Jedi
- melee tank
- another Jedi or melee tank
- Carbineer
- Rifleman
- balanced ranged like BH/Pistol or another Rifleman
the really nice thing about the CU is because of the 2 novice tree requirements any of these roles can also fill something else. many times do you see Pistol roles filled by something else like the carbineer or rifleman. there's lots of mixing and matching going on so that you're likely to get everything you need.well,as long as you dont get too many jedi or melee tanks (which is why i only want 3)
but, if you're asking for our ideal group build i would have to go w/ something like this
- SL
- CM or Doc
- Jedi
- melee tank

Hmm, interesting. My personal "ideal" group consists of names instead of professions... and i'd need to be able to have 10 people in team to get that together... *grin*

touchet!
i merely said that's my ideal group setup. rarely do i see that, let alone fill all 8 slots. so instead, i too havea list of favorite players that work best in my groups.
its pretty sad that i cant stand in the MO on dant and /yell "Master Squad Leader forming grind party" and get toons lining up to petition me for an invite. im not egotistic, but come on - Squad Leaders should LEAD SQUADS!!
Honestly?
SL/Rifle or Carbines
Rifle/CM
Rifle/Doc
Rifle/Pistoleer and smuggler (root effects)
Jedi tank/healer
Jedi tank/healer
Any (Carbines if SL is not one, for state effects. Though these dont' stick long in PvE.)
Any
If the rifles have 80m range as well, its a long way to charge the group shooting snipershots at enemies after rooting one or two. Add in some dabblers in BH for underhand shot to combo with startle shot, and its an even longer trip to get close to the squad. When you finally get there, the rifles can back off, you have Jedi to contend with, and as you do damage there's enough solid healing going on between the CM, Doc, and Jedi, it would be tough to get them down without a massively overwhelming force.
that would be my group, anyway. And its often what I put together in PvPing on Ahazi. Works out great.
