Thread: Why did you become a Squad Leader?

In these troubled times where Jedi's and Bounty Hunter's over-populate the servers, there are a few who go against the tide and stay or become Squad Leaders. My question to all of you is .....what made you become a Squad Leader? What was your major influence?

By the way I'm Keth, nice to meet you all.

I randomly started playing SWG, no knowledge about any profession, and didnt even had a look at the elite profession till somebody said, click on all profession on the skill window.

Squadleader

It just came naturally to my in character character and the more advanced the more I liked the nessecary teamwork and now its your sig:

"If the general is weak and not disciplined, his instructions not clear, the officers and troops lack discipline and their formation in disarray, this is called chaos."

Sun-Tzu "The Art of War"

Im there to avoid that chaos.

I used to ladder alot on other games, squad leader fit me more then anything els with the teamwork involved. I always go for the team win instead of padding my own stats so I just whent with what I know.

i never wanted to be an 'uber player'. just a desire to hold my own. i also liked the group dynamic and social aspects of grouping. my personality tends to be one of a leader, or so i'm told. so, when i got the game, read the manual and strategy guide i knew Squad Leader would be the perfect choice. havent looked back yet!

in fact, if i go the jedi path, i've been working on builds that will keep a lot of SL boxes, if not master. I call it a Jedi Leader.

I became a SL for my guild. we are a very sociable bunch and we enjoy hunting together mostly high end PvE but also some PvP. We mainly do PvE for the fun rather than for any loot. As soon as stop worrying about trying to grab high end loot, making money or bragging rights on what you can solo then you start working for the good of the group. I know that many in the guild appreciate my MSL coming out for a hunt and are happy for me to not really do much dmg if i am helping out the group as a whole.

I did it because 1) I was making a SW RPG pilot and the closest thing at the time before jtl was squad leader. But in other non PC games, I have been THE leader of a city as well as a member of the ruling council and I've held every position within the city at the same time. I also made alliances with our mortal enemy, they knew that they could call upon me at any time and they were there to back me up. In the same game, I have also been a gang leader in the opposing faction. The gang leader had an ability exactly like the Humans +10 to Leadership, though the one in that game worked. And while everyone else was hack and slash, or only interested in gaining power in politics, guild and what not, my cooler head prevailed and I tried and am trying to do what is right for the whole and not just myself, where my leadership, ideas and suggestions were listened to I earned greater and greater power Where others would just have to manipulate their way to the top, I earned it and new that I was a force to not be manipulated nor could be manipulated. So, as I progressed through marksman and scout, my ideas of what to do in this game grew more and more, just like previous games that I've played. I do it in this game as well, though I will sacrifice the toon to make sure everyone else survives. So naturally, with all that expierence and personal views, Squad Leader fits me and will continue to fit me.

Mine is the same reason as scout's. I just happened upon it while I was looking at the professions list and I thought it would suit the character that I had in mind. It might be typical of an Ahazian... since most of us joined the server because it was one of the first things on the server listwe happened upon.

I've played a few professions now, and a few crosses. I did the Rifle/CM thing, I did Rifle/Pistoleer, I tried Rifle/BH (notice a rifle trend here? Its been 20 months now). Rifle/Commando was hella fun, but not practicle in my PvPing. In the mix, I had done SL, dropped it for pistoleer to get the defenses, but found it was boring being just another stacker. Who cares? There's a ton of stackers out there, looking for the flavor of the month to play. I went back to Rifle/SL because I had the most fun there. I was out doing things with people, PvE and PvP, I enjoyed the leadership role (found I wasn't half bad at it), and hav had a few good chuckles when people whom I've played with since launch, whom are now full template Jedi, remark about how crazy it is that here I am with just enough force sensitive boxes to make my rifle a little faster and soon to be more accurate.

It also suits my personality/interests, being a military history buff. Its the closest thing one comes to being a battlefield general here, profession-wise anyway. Reputation-wise.. that's up to the players themselves, and how well they absorb and strive to truly understand greats such as Sun Tzu.
