Found this on the Smuggler forum:

for those who feel the need to bash GreenMarine

RIP GM

You can stop bashing him, he's gone. He fought for us and I imagine got tired of fighting the rusty cogs of the powers that be. here's to you GM! /salute

GM was responsible for the original SL design too, as far as I know (read it somehwere here on the boards).

So yeah, there we go, he probadly was a good responsible programmer who wanted his code tested, before put to live, also certainly had a bunch of good creative ideas, which he'd liked to had discussed with the community, which is all against SOE policy ...

or maybe he wanted to spend more time with his family (Tyrant)?

I'm pretty ambivalent over GreenMarine's recent departure. On hte one hand I'm sorry to see him go, but on the other I'm glad that he's moving on to greater opportunities. Before y'all go off down some path of doom and gloom, please take into account this tidbit from today's LiveJournal post:

"Additionally, I have to say that all of the work I was assigned at SOE will be carried on. David White and Thomas Blair, in particular, are very intelligent designers with strong work ethics and a good since of community. I think you can expect them to bring a lot of good to the smuggler profession. Don't hinge expectations on a single designer. SOE has plenty of good designers to carry on the torch."

All is not lost.

I agree with Darth, he can't keep his fans and game fans happy if he's not happy, though it is a loss. But all of best of luck to him. I know myself, I will continue to play the game as long as I am able to, regardless of who leaves. But I do hope that both White and Blair serve the community as well as GreenMarine has.

Communication from the devs is hitting an all time low, don't know what is going on behind the scenes in the Correspondant forums but you see only about 3 or so posts a day from the red names.

What makes me laugh is Tiggs and TH were hired for the purpose of letting the developers know what the community wants/feels. To this day I think both have done a pretty bad job of it.

Every publish now has BH and Jedi changes as the most, nothing for the smugglers, rangers, squad leaders and even commandos who have been completely broken since CU beta.

At the end of 04 the devs stated that the focus on 05 was to add content, content and more content. Well besides the ROTW expansion which we had to pay for there really hasn't been anything and its been halfway through 05. They seem so focused on the Jedi/BH end game that they are forgetting what the core of the game should be about and thats the GCW.

I had hope for SWG when Tyrant, Just G, GM and those likes were around and actually communicating. Now that it looks like they all left it is starting to show something about how SOE does its business. I feel it will be probably 06 before we or rangers get any attention.....

"even commandos who have been completely broken since CU beta."

I was a Commando from the month after the launch of the game. It still hasn't been fixed, after two years.

actually, commando had some ups in it's life.

when they added the fire dot, it's was teh ubar, but it attracted a lot of attention because it was so ubar, thus it was nerfed down.

it was still ok pre-cu for killing things with armor that was just too good like DJM and ancient krayt if you didn't have any jedi around.

CU tho they sux.

imo they really just should start merging professions, theres too many to have content for and to have roles for.

merge SL andcommando. merge Ranger and CH. merge dancer andmusician. merge merchant and politician. merge bio engineer and image designer. thus you can have some actual meat on some of these lackluster professions with one fell swoop. all of these profession have at least 1 or 2 useless lines anyway. 33 professions + jedi is too ambitious.

I dont like merging them but by the rate SOE is working on SWG at least your second part of your statements is , as fatal as it is, close to be true.

There are too many for SOE in their current way of handling SWG to have content for.

But the fact that SOE has all this professions and its so, or was so much diffefrent (with the 6 stat HAM), was what made it special compared to all other MMORPGs.

So better no merging but having more effort of SOE being put into SWG.

my way is easier. just saying.

we live in a cheaper, better, faster era and they'll take 2/3 if they can get it...

There are ways to make these professions more "meaty". I've supplied lots of ideas on exactly how to do this... but alas you may have the most reasonable alternative.
