Thread: Radar Silence ability and a new take on the forgotten leadership skill mod

Well i'm just being bored and in light of the recent uproar brought to these forums I thought I would just bring up some new tweaks on old abilties mentioned:

Radar Silence - Would belong in the mobility tree, probably 3rd or 4th tier.

How it would work: The squad leader would issue this command, any group member caught in his Leadership aura (more on this later) would disappear completely from radar and in game just like how jedi and rifleman do it. Nobody would be able to /target you. If any group member is currently engaged in combat, radar silence will not work.

Radar silence would break under the following conditions:

Group members talk using spatial chat

Group members engage the enemy

Enemy comes within 32 m or less of a group member

Optional ways radar silence could be broken:

A ranger could use his/her tracking ability

A droid equipped with a new scanning module could scan the area over 128m

Ways this ability could be used:

A DE made transmitter: Crafted by a DE, it would have a battery power section and uses remaining. Once the SL orders a "group cover" the battery power will drain to 0% and the uses remaining would go down by one. The battery would then slowly recharge over the next 5 minutes back to 100% and then could be used again.

Skill based only: Squad leader would not require any additional tools to use this ability. Once radar silence is used, it would freeze the cool down timer. When cover is broken, the timer would count down from 5 minutes.

Leadership mod:Bring this back into the game since humans still seem to get this mod. Make leadership determine the distance of the Squad Leader's "aura". So basically the more leadership you have, the farther away your group members could be from you and still receive the passive bonuses and specials like rally.

Any comments on this?

Another interesting idea...I think the Rangers would like to be the ones doing the idea, but maybe if it was an ability for a Ranger in a group with a SL...then we both benefit.

Well, last night I got to see my first Ranger camp up close, awesome, that's why I love ranger and want one. But imho I've tossed out this idea to my current fellow guildies of what "I" want to start. A Special Forces squad, taking every prof that's needed to take out bases, which will take 5 spots, the 6th spot is for our Ranger friends, the 6th spot is for the needed Medic (read any of the Healer profs), the 7th spot due to rp is open at the moment while the 8th spot, I haven't filled with a prof yet. Could go with CH, but they annoy me with their Rancors in the field of view when they're standing right on top of me and any angle I try to use, all I see is Rancor.

But, this is an interesting idea using +cover+ or something to the effect. But yes, another +cloak+ would be a bit much imho.

A very cool idea, but this going invisible is a little bit FOTY with all those jedi cloakers around since the CU.

I like that the group disapears form the radar and is not targetable but another +cloak+ especially for a group might be a bit unbalancing and in the end everybody would run around cloaked (making it hard to distinguish between friends and foes).

Keep the remove from radar and untargetable but, let the group be still visible in the game, but change their appearance.

They could show up as

  • Random NPCs (if you have entertainers or smugglers maybe even as NPCs of the opposing faction). Targetable but not attackable maybe too, or yellow like the police forces in cities.

  • Trees, rocks, grass as long as they don't walk or run (moving prone, kneeling doesnt break it) and it would make ambushes a bit more "balanced".

  • Or why not both? Having a ranger in the group allows to go prone and conceal as trees, and with smugglers or entertainers in the group you can appear like NPCs.

Anyway very intersting idea.

p.s.
this and the sat. recon idea already copied into the wiki.

Cool thanks for the feedback, I do understand why some might consider a group "cloak" a bit much.

So instead of disappear from the view of players, like mentioned above just have it so the group would disappear from radar and can't be targetted.

Now the enemy could say break this by going within 15 m of a group member under radar silence, since they would be "spotted".

Another thing could be that it could work similar to the old TEF, when a covert member gained a flag, the enemy player would still see a blue dot but have a target, once double clicked, they would attack the player and then the dot would turn to red.

So what you could do is not have a dot show up, but if you highlighted over the player you would have a target icon and then break the radar silence if attacked.

This ability could still be effective, the SL orders a retreat from an invading force, gets the group to hide in the back of the cantina and there dots disappear, the enemy wouldn't even know .
