Thread: A question about this platoon (raid) idea

While at first, it seems like a great and unique idea, what would be the purpose. As of now there is no content that requries that many people, or even a full group of 8. Yes, in pvp it would be slightly more organised but in pve it would require a whole wave of new "raid" content.

I think a great way to think about our profession is to read the Illiad ( or watch the movie Troy ). I've been SL since the 'very' beginning, and certainly would like any attention being given to the profession. Watch how Achillies leads his men, they are not successful because they outnumber their opponents, but because they have a true leader that raises them above their enemies. I certainly dont mean to sound like I'm shooting down an idea, but it would be much more beneficial for a squad leader to greatly improve his/her party rather then simply adding numbers.

While your view is exactly right, the problem that I have is what if the person playing an SL isn't a leader. I myself have been a leader many times over, but I was never in "the old boys club", I just had the knowledge of what was going on. I could get my point across, just never listened. Now yes, a good leader has to be able to overcome all odds with his men, if they're not a good leader, but enjoy helping people, should they go MD instead, maybe MDancer? Personally, no, I made a Dancer on another server for a friend and in all honesty, I hate it. I love the excitement of gunfire and overcoming odds. You know as well as I do, the types of people that play, how many brainless baffoons are out there. Like another poster said in another thread, how many people know not to attack a target when the smuggler puts concussion shot on it. The only way that I see SL working well is if they do implement new things into it. And if we get a true leader in this new group of players, then more power to us. If we don't then we're no better off than we are now.

Though if anyone wants to be a better leader, yes, definitly look into how true leaders work with their men and women to do their objectives and implement them into game play in whatever fashion you can.

The reason why I would like to have larger groups or raid groups is that you can go out with a larger number of players.

I know this realy might be unbalancing to certain quests but the thing is that I have a very active guild who like to group. We all together want to do something just for fun taking experienced as well not so experienced ppl with us e.g. krayt hunting. Now we suddenly face the situation we have 10 ppl split up in two groups (how ever you divide them).

I know how to invite a complete group into an private channel, but being able to set up meta groups would make it much more easy and again all ppl could chat in /raid chat channel rather then taking it to the guildchat or spatial.

If only MSL would be possible to form such raid groups, and at least SLs would be needed be groupleaders to join such a group if would heavily promote our class.

I dont need my passive bonuses spread all over the whole raid group, just my sys msg and a /raid chat channel and regarding earning XP, it looks like they are going to change group XP anyway, so why not open your eyes and look ahead of things that might be usefull and taking care that larger groups wont unbalance it. Rather then just always fixing things after they went live.

Currently a lot of ppl are doing the "BIG" things in game (DWB) anyway in more than one group, especially if they are not "jedi only" groups.

Even with 16 ppl having only 4 jedi with us and a very mixed group of regulares in various levels taking the DWB was a challenge and fun for our guild, a /raid chat would have make coordination easier and we could have chatted while playing a tidbit more, also explaining things just once to everybody and not constantly repeating it in one group and than the other.

Thanks for the feedback! To your first point, with the state that things are in now, I find it very unlikely for anyone to spend so many points on a class when they have no passion to lead. Does this make them a good leader? Of course not. But history is riddled with leaders who "thought" they were good leaders, when infact they were not.

Forgive me for using a wide brush to paint the SWG picture because I know 'all' players to not fall into this category. But the majority of players in our gamehave evolved into power hungry pvp'ers who want to have the best build possible. This can infact weed out several of the "bad leaders" as well keep our class balanced. If you choose the path of SL, and more specifically MSL, you are accepting the fact that you want to lead a group .. not solo your way through a given high-end mission. Your entire profession's specialty is tied to being in a group. Our passive self-bonuses are nice to have, but in the end they go against the purpose of our profession.

Secondly, there can only be one SL per group. This should raise their value even further, knowing that you can only have one. Whereas you can have two doctors, or two riflemen .. you can even have two jedi in our twisted little world. But only ONE SL. This is something that should encourage that our skills become not game breaking, but increadibly advantageous to a group.

These two ideas can be combined by shifting 'all' skills and buffs to "group only". There are several ways to go about this, the simplest being to raise the amount of passive bonus stats, and increase the efficiency of our current skills drastically. The other path to take is to completely rework the class, something I think would be somewhat of an overkill. If simple tweaks were made to the existing skills, come up with a new skill to replace the outdated Boost Morale, and boost our passive group mods to really add a kick where your team needs it .. we would be much better off. Of course this can be greatly expanded or reduced .. like any idea.

Finally, I have one other random idea that I've always been fond of for SLs. What if we had the ability to set up a "battle camp", armed with a few immoble ( player mounted ) weapons .. ala the large guns from the beginning of Empire Strikes Back. I suppose its a stretch to ask for such a "new" idea .. but it would be a blast ( pun intended ) to have squads bunkered down in their camps fighting back and forth.

The platoon idea must happen, I guess when I thought of it , was based mostly on pvp though :/.
