For those who have read my sig, I have been a commando going on 600 days now. I've seen the glory days, and the days of our nerfing. I have seen my DoT start godly, then become like a single needle poking you. I've seen my profession turned into the worst thing to group, because when the younger commando group, they get removed due to the fact that they have AoE weapons, no choice.

With saying that, Squad Leader also has some major problems, some you all could list out quite easily, I am sure. Our professions are not so different, we are both broken professions. So, I thought I would post something to raise your spirits, I got whining. This is what saddens me. We are similar, Squad Leaders. But dont let your spirit be broken. My hope for this profession has withstood my dot being destroyed, our weapons being nerfed, our entire glass going down the crapper, and through the promise of a CU which ruined us, nearly breaking our spirit. I am a simple soldier, soI know that you true squad leaders have the spirit to hold strong. There is no need to complain at good ideas to think about, friends. Make a difference, and stay SL. Stick it in the devs face. Tell them "No, you are not going to take me away from the profession I love. I am a Squad Leader, and will be till the day I quit this game"

reydon, congrats first off on your commandoness. sticking with one prof that long is noteworthy. i'm being totally serious when i say you should get a special badge for that. thank you also for the good wishes you have expressed. and thank you for remembering us with your Alpha-class idea when it seems a large number of the playerbase has forgotten us.


now, all that being said, i think you're misinterpreting our message and reactions to your idea. yes, SL and commando have being borked professions in common with each other. and yes, one has had as little dev attention as the other. but really, this is where the similarities end. we may be common professions in spirit, but definately not in play style.


Commando is all about blowing stuff up. using your mega-plasma-death-thrower-cannon to maximum effect turning NPCs to cinders and supplying barbequed spare ribs when finished hunting rontos.


Squad Leader does none of this. without another combat prof we are crap for fighting. ours is not kill. ours is to make the killers more efficient. we do this with accuracy buffs, with defence buffs, with defence and TN mods.


put a pistol in the hands of a Commando / ID and you have a deadly ID. put the same pistol in the hands of a SL / ID and you have a player that leads his group and makes them look nice at the same time. see, we know what we are and what we can do. its why we picked the prof in the first place. we didnt choose SL to be an uber killing machine. we want to make our friends uber killing machines. even with being borked, we still do that; as do Commandos still excel at blowing stuff up and supplying lunch for the group after taking a bantha mission. neither of us do it as well as we'd like, post-CU, and we still have that in common i suppose.


bottom line, reydon, is that you had an interesting idea for your alpha-class. it just wasnt for SL's. sure, SL's may be mando inclined in spirt, but not in practice. your skills and mods had nothing to do with leading a group of players, which is what we SL's want to do.


you received rejection and criticizm not because we're complaining or didnt like your idea, but because they didnt fit our thoughts of a Squad Leader. if your idea was ever put in place, i for one doubt i'd go down that path because it would mean giving up much, if not all, of SL. and that's just not for me.

Never said we have common play style, but we are similar in the fact that we have been crushed over and over. And when I see people who respond with pessimistic answers to an idea made so ya can have something good and fun to think about besides your crushed prof (mine to), it is sad.

Yes, our mega-plasma-death-thrower-cannon that has a higher sac, lower damage cap then rifles, does AoE which kills groups 90% of the time (I've seen it). Even more, our AoE doesnt work. Our dot doesnt even do that much, 250-300. Trust me, we are far from mega-plasma-death-thrower-cannon users.

Commando has no specials. We are an expansion upon another prof, as is Squad Leader.

Commando/ID? You have an ID who is suicidal basically. You cant do crap as just a commando, try it, you'd be killing yourself in any fight. No specials to do damage, just a dot, and an AoE that gets you ganked. I never said SL was suppost to be an Uber killing machine, but nor is Commando. We are suppost to be, but we are not. In all honestly, no bias, I think commando is a bit more nerfed, but we both are majorly nerfed.

I didnt have any skill mods. I didnt write any down. I could have put that in ya know, you cant blame me for not putting in what I have not even started to put in. As for specials, I have trees open for you all to do. I have never been a SL, so I cant put in SL ideals into the template. That is why I posted it here. I want you all to tell me what you want put in it.

Read above. I cant put in stuff about a profession I have never been for more then 2 hours. Turel put in his BH side, I put in my commando side, now it is your turn. I guess I was expecting a bit much from you guys. Commando forum people usually give suggestions before blowing something off. Maybe I am just to used to that. I posted it here so that you guys can throw in suggestions and tell me how to give it a more SL feel, but still keep the BH and commando side.

This is a little off topic, but just to throw this out there.. I think there's a bit of a distinction to be made between classes that Used to be Uber and slowly got beat down with the Nerf Bat, and professions that never really "existed".

Commando used to be Uber. I remember the days with a Krayted Flamethrower was a PVP'ers worst nightmare, sending people scattering for water like Rats.. On Tatooine, guaranteed death. I remember the days when I almost dropped SL to pick up a flamethrower and join in on the fun.

Sadly, I don't think you'ld find many commando's who would drop their Flamethrowers for Squad Leader. I believe that ourselves & Rangers take the cake for "Purpose: missing since launch". Fewest fixes, fewest nerfs, fewest members...

That is how it used to be. but how it is now is different. You see a flamer, you aim for that person pretty much. Commando had the glory days, but then we got the worst nerfs. I honestly think it is worse to have the powers of a god, then have them taken away, then to never have them at all. It's more soul-crushing. I never see more then 1 other commando in a day.

First off let me say that I played a Commando on another server and yes they too have problems. As do Squad Leaders. I also feel that I shouldapologize for my fellow squad leaders (I read here all the time, but hardly post). Our Correspondent even noted that there is a foul mood in the Squad Leader community lately. Seems like there are some potential respec's coming for those who lack conviction. I myself couldnt leave if I tried. Just having the Squad Leader title over my head earns me alot of respect, from my allies and enemies. I play on a very RP fortified server so on top of the respect I also have a very heavy burden placed on my shoulders. I took the burden willingly, to be the first in combat and the last one out. I dont strive to be powerful, I dont want to be a hero. I want to be known as "A solid leader, and great tactician." Thats all. Even with our abilities as screwy as they are. You dont need the Star Wars abilities to be an effective leader. You must think beyond your weaknesses and learn to use them to your advantage. Be smarter than your opponent and you will win.

I'm pretty sureyou could count the number of Master SLs on Radiant on one hand. 3 of them are Rebel...2 are Imperial. Thats all I have seen in months.

The chic I met in the Village the other day got a good laugh when I ran up to her and starting shouting "I'M NOT ALONE ANYMORE! BEAR MY CHILDREN, QUICK, BEFORE ONE OF US DIES!" .. Ok, not really.. but we were both surprised to see each other.

Yeah. There are VERY few who are in our profs. That cant be denied. there are only 2 true commando I know. I know 2 SL's on Ahazi, Liongtsaio, and Arica. That's it. and Arica hasnt played in a long time so says a mutual friend. We shouldnt argue over who is more nerfed, who has fewer people, because there are few of us on any server, that cant be denied really. I am currently making my alt to be a SL/Pistoleer. Both of our profs deserve fixes. My only problem is seeing a profession as broken as commando, to be so pessimistic and down.

Ohhh, wait..there are 6. I forgot about a wookiee Imperial. Imagine my shock when I group up for PVP and asked for lead only to be told that he was a MSL as well. The jedi that responded that he was a MLS as well was classic.


Yeah, the other Rebel was one I ran across on Dantooine one day at the MO a month or so back. I assume the female rebel was Alahna Stargazer? or are their 7 of us..... /ponder

read what /boostmoral does. I am sure youll understand why then. When /boostmoral doesn't boost morale and is more likely to get you a butt chewing by those in your group.....yeah.


about the best thing we can do is /Rally, /Retreat and /Pray
