Thread: It saddens me...
So, there's only one jedi out there, who is exempt from the question, because I respect him. What are you going to do after you get Jedi? Now if there are others out there that I respect, then I will know who you are.
I think back when the game was still fresh people wanted to become jedi because it was iconic, and because those who actually would become them gained a celebrity status on the servers. I remember seeing my first jedi, i was almost star struck. Now look at all them, they are just an annoyance. Many people became jedi later on in the stage of the game because the GCW which was supposed to be the "elder game" of SWG was/still is not there, so jedi was the next end game. Others did it because the only way to really compete against other players was to become a jedi.
If they don't do something, they'll keep losing numbers fast. They say they have a lot of new players, I don't doubt that, but eventually they'll figure out how SOE screws them just like all the old vets who are no longer with us.
It seems almost everyone who is working on Jedi has a different reason for it. Some do it to be uber leet, some because they feel it is the only way to be competative (and thus they help raise the power curve), some because they really don't know what else to do in the game any more because they feel it is the only thing left. Every now and then, you find some one who is Jedi because they want to be Jedi (not jed-eye) - typically, these are the people whowillnot be dancing around Theed like idiots, instead you rarely meet them (or you don'tknow you meet a Jedi) and more often then not they have built non-FOTM templates, sometimes down right weird templates.
What to do after Jedi? What to do people do before Jedi? Some grind, some hunt, some roleplay, some pvp, some help new players. There is alot of game content, much of it can be done over again even if you've done it once. As long as you can keep from getting bored with the game, there is always something to do. I haven't touched most of the Kashyyyk quests yet personally, someday I'll do more of them.
What I think drives the Jedi mentality to grind-grind-grind post-CU is there comes a point when you hit a commitment to jedi, for better or worse. Whether they grind or just play, as they progress their template they hit this point when their CL drops like a rock due to the skill point costs - they're dropping regular prof boxes for early jedi boxes but are unable to maintain their CL in the process. Its hard to justify joining a group with their friends to take on higher end content, because they feel they can't contribute or fear visibility before being full template, so they feel they have to grind their fingers off to get that all powerful CL 80 again.
*shrug* Its a game, have fun. I hate grinding, took me almost 3 or 4 months to master rifleman last summer, grinding Jedi scares me at times.
CL 80 or not, I'm out to enjoy the game and find a way to contribute the best I can.
