Discussed and requested many times. People would want it but we're sure it won't come.

  • a constant size of 8 people in team makes things easier to balance for the Devs

  • if the SL could increase group-size, it would be a "must have" profession and thus would be hurtful for other professions. Devs don't want that.

So, learn to live with the 8 man limit, it won't fall.

Still Im not giving up so easily on this, even when another major reason for SWG not to have larger groups is the that the servers can not handle several ppl interacting with each other in one area.

Ppl are anyway doing non instances like the DWB with two or more groups.

I can understand the balancing issue especially the rewarding with XP will be difficult if multiple groups fight one target, but the only thing I want is a /raidparty chat to coordinate everybody and a /sys msg that reaches several groups.

Well if you create a chat channel you could create a /raidparty like feature for your group anyway. Before you head into the dungeon du jour, you have your briefing talking people how to join the chat channel and make sure everyone has it in their display.

In fact i lately was telling people, while being in larger scale PvP combat, to do /chat join XY

No preparation, no beforehand coordination, when you're suddenly into base defence, you don't have the time to plan ahead for a long time. And still it worked out pretty fine, we might not have been optimally organised, but we were able to work dynamically enough.

As soon as i don't have to spend a lot of time to rebuild my interface (chat-tabs and detached chat windows) every day, i'll see to have such a channel permanently established.

For me personally, there are two reasons why bigger groups would be nice:

  1. i have some healing skills, but if somebody out of my group gets beaten up, i notice it too late to still give medical assistance

  2. the bigger the group, the more people i can give my bonuses (especially volley fire and rally) to.

Having a sufficient number of doctors and combat medics along overcomes the first point, having a second Squad Leader on the battlefield should ease the second point. Of course, i might be "biased" for i use the /sys very rarely, i prefer to use the "regular" means of communication almost all of the time.

Yeah I know what you mean about the healing et al.

When my guild goes on a hunt and we have more than 8 people the first thing we do is divide up the healers, then tanks to make sure each group can stand and then go from there. As a MBH/MSL/0440 Carbs and my fiancee being MDoc/Mpistoleer/4000 CM we always go as a core unit.

If they increased the group size it does pose balance problems, however linking together for information purposes may not be a bad idea. Like you get to see the HAM display for all raid pary members (if you want), however SL bonuses only apply to your sub unit. That would be workable.

I don't know... your suggestion would still reduce the need for healing classes. While not cutting our own throat, we do with them, although you currently find enough healers usually.

Anyways, i think it's not workable without problems, a few weeks ago we hadthree complete teams and some more in a half-size team on the combat channel. That's around 30 people, i don't have the slightest idea on how to display the HAM of 30 people on the screen under current conditions.

You sure can save some space by skipping action and mind but if you also remove the buff/debuff line you'll reduce workability of doctors again... they won't cure what they can't notice that they can/should cure it.

It wouldn't really reduce the need as the docs can only heal so much due to HAM points. You would still want to have adequate coverage incase stuff gets spread out, or have one person focus on jst health, another buffs, and another clearing states. Asking 1 person to do that for 24 people would be over whelming.

My view on the subject is something like this.

  • Take away faction ranks, and award wearable medals instead.

  • Give the squadleader profession ranks, depending on how far they have progressed

    • Novice Squadleader - Sergeant

    • Four Skillboxes- Staff Sergeant

    • Eight Skillboxes - Master Sergeant

    • Twelve Skillboxes - Sergeant Major

    • Sixteen Skillboxes - Warrant Officer

    • Master - Second Lieutenant

  • Each rank comes with benefits

    • Ability to handle more faction pets

    • Ability to lead more groupmembers

There are more things to add, but I cannot come up with anything right now.

Regarding the rank and the levels of a squad leader I vote for a no.

Although the profession as it is is easily played within an faction as an officer, the squad leader is not per se factional.

IMHO ranks should be independent from squad leader offering all those nice and nasty things like more faction pets (if you insist on those, I dont like that idea), call for reinforcements or airstrikes. These are definitly things that happen in a war thus belong to the GCW and should be bound to the faction rank system.

The squad leader profession should focus on enhaning group combat, group communication and coordination.

Regarding a seperate chat channel, I have very often a seperate chat channel for exact that reason thus coordinating ppl across different group, when we PvE I like to just /Shout or /command, what sometimes add to the feel but in PvP you dont want to have your opponent know your next moves.

An good thing overcoming the obstacles the DEVs throw in our way is to put all ppl I have in ventrilo into the other group, so they hear my while my group sees my /sys or /group, or collect the names of the other groupleaders and pass them all nessecary information, but in all cases, these are just work arounds around the issue that we need better communication tools because not everybody is fast in typing, talking in vent AND fighting AND leading.

Regarding more wearable items.

I want a cowboy hat!
