Thread: Check to target

This idea was mentioned on my galaxy forum as a possible idea to steal from Guild Wars that would work well for SLs.

On Guild Wars I guess there is a box next to your name in the group window, if you click on a box next to someone it changes your target to their current target.

Obviously, we have pass-through targeting, but I've foundin the lastmonth or sothat in large scale encounters I don't stay on the same target long enough to justify people doing pass-through on me - I'm either checking over enemies or tossing heals / buffs on allies mid-fight. The ability to have that box there would be great, toss off volleyfire and stay on that target for a few seconds so people could use it to jump to my target, and then off I go back to work.

ROFL, nah I didn't hate you the other couple times you've been SL

BUT, if you end up like that rebel SL on the server who's name I can never remember, but who has Formup on a repeating macro and appears (at least from my side of the battle) to be little more then a walking bot, then yes I will hate you and you can expect a volleyfire on you everytime I pvp and see you. Then again, you (and Talley once he starts pvping) can expect that anyways

I knew several SL BOTs, I hated ALL OF THEM.

I was so against it I wanted to delete their toon, and even made a post about it to try and stop it lol.

Well, we need someone to lead the supply troops.

I actually pretty effectively overcome this problem by designating a "targeter" in my team. The main criteria is that the person is a pure damage dealer so he won't be interested in switching targets to heal, etc...

It works best with my "usual" people, but i found that as long as you keep reminding the teammembers on it occasionally, it also works with other people. (When i go around and heal them, i also see who they have targeted... if it's not the targeter, they get a reminder... *grin* )

Probably not as good as the mentioned mechanics, but with a disciplined team it works perfectly fine.

You can click on your group mates in the grouplist and automattically switch to their target too. So no need for an extra box.

And to avoid non-combat during compat, I always, as sylow, designate a targeter or pointman like I like to say.

This is usually a melee tank, with the ranges keeping close to me and just need to turn around while we let the tank pick the target.

You need a very experienced man/woman for this in PvP, since there is no need to attack a MDefender. My currently best pointman tank TKM/MDoc is in vacation but he is awesom. He recognizes in an instant the template of his opponent so he just goes for the easy kills first, skipping TKMs MDef and ppl who heal to fast, so we still rip through our enemies pretty good with just 8regulars against two or three jedi mixed with regulard.

We still die but we take most of them with us, depending on their templates ...

Honestly I must admit Im more like the General Custer type of Leader, I waste my troops just for the sheer joy of the battle, I hardly never retreat but rather try to take as much down as possible with me ... . ....

There is no running away from a group of full jedi anyway with a mixed group but we are awefull stubborn before we drop to the ground ....

There is a difference between the extra box and what we have now... With the extra box, your actual target would change to the enemy, currently your actual target still is the teammate. If the teammate then changes target, you currently also change, with the box you would stick to your target.

Though, while perhaps being nice, it's not really an urgent thing in my book.

I would definately not list it on any priority list, I just thought it was a cool little toy worth listing. In my regular group,I will many times try todefine the TKA/Fencer/Commando as the target man, I'll have to use your suggestion of reminding people of that mid combat. We're not on Teamspeak or Vent anymore, so all of our communication is text-based, so anything I can get to in-game to push our effectiveness I'm willing to look at.

I have a small advantage with the checking, i admit. I tend to help out as the secondary healer in my team (heck, last time we went base-busting,i ended up as primary healer, and that with only 750 points healed per use...) and thus am going through the complete team again and again, anyways.

It's no effort to then have your targeter in sight and see if he has the nice gray box on him, while you heal your teammates.

I'd enjoy useing your idea if when you clicked on the box of your group member you choose, a bright different color box showed on their target to the whole group.
