Thread: Why I love being a Squad Leader, and what you can do to help.

I love the idea of being a Squad Leader; walking into Bestine to defend the town from the uprising Rebel army. Looking around, making sure everybody sticks together. Screaming “Provide cover fire on the Rebel! Heavy weapons move in! Fire”! Getting jumped from behind and thinking “This isn’t good. I should have been watching my blind spot. Who is it?” Looking around to see that it’s Knock. The head of one of the most ruthless Rebellion organizations… RAID. “Move into defensive posture! Target Knock!”. Too late… Knock takes me out with a shot to the head. “This is my fault” I think to myself. I wasn’t experienced enough to command this many in a group. Maybe next time… if there is a next time.

I see negative comments about this profession every day on this forum, yet these same people stick with it because in their hearts they are leaders. I think this profession can be saved. I would like to take the role of Squad Leader in this fight. From you, I need constructive emails about how frustrated you feel because after 3 months, there has not been one fix to this honourable profession. Once I get enough, I will do my best to forward these emails to one of the designers of the game. I need constructive emails only. We want to show that we are mature players who demand quality, and that we are not begging children. This is up to us, and I feel that we DO have a fighting chance.

And you have pointed out the most useful (only useful?) command the Squad Leader has: /sysgroup.

I read your forum posting and had to sign up.

I started the game and had a long hard look at Squad Leader, but was swayed in my decision by looking at Ranger. I agree with you, the Squad Leader class is very weak at the moment. There are however some EXCEPTIONAL Squad Leaders. I hate to jack your thread, but RAID is fortunate to have 3 Squad Leaders, all on at various times. I believe that the best in the game has (had) to have been Theseus. He taught all the other founding fathers of RAID the tactics and in-game commands that propel a squad ahead in the battle.

I know that there are a lot of ways you can individually tweak you profession out. Such as writing macros for "%TT is my target, FIRE!!!" etc. This can be accomplished (written)by all, but should be used ONLY by the Squad Leader.

I sign this thread in hopes of the Squad Leader class becoming more prolific.

Knock,

I know that there is some excelent leaders out there, and I have tweaked the /sysgroup macros to death. I'm not saying that there isn't the potential for some excellent leaders to come out of this, or that I'm even one of them. I'm saying that the Squad Leaders haven't been notified about anything regarding this profession. I would like to see the /sysgroup command working between the developers and this profession. Even just a "Currently we're working on..." instead of the "There's only so much time in a day, I can't be bothered to let you know whats going on." attitude we're getting now. Thanks for support! I'll have to remember that next time we're in battle.

We at SOE have a lot of work ahead of us between batting down our bug count and adding significant new features (e.g. mounts). I appreciate your comments on the Squad Leader bugs. Are there any in particular that you are finding to be most troublesome? Send them along and I can look into them. I cannot promise anything about their status, though --- we work on defects and features in a prioritized manner that I don’t directly control.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

I'm not going to publish the name, but I'm hopping that they're actually going to take a look at it.

Ive looked long and hard at alot of sites on the stats of the Squad Leader and when i started that is what i wanted to be and now i finally meet the requirments for it and these threadshave me woundering.

First, the dev in charge of this profession isnt very involed,b/c if they were we mightsee them posting more in this forums.

Next In the last patch they took out the 20-25k missions on endor where lots of groups wentfor hunting, sure there wereppl out there that could take on the missions by them selfs but the bestpart was the combat groups what went out. I guess i cant see the reasoning inthat removal.

The Idea of a Squad Leader is Perfect, Having to be in a group to get the best xp, Hell one of the only reasons i play these online games is for the real person groups that u can have. If Sony ever fixes these bug that have buged this profession i believe that Squad Leader will be one of those professions ppl will say, " We got to have one in our group"

Excuse me if I am wrong, j4d00, but isn't this something I've already been doing since late June?
