Just a random list of potential skill changes

Group Terrain Bonus: Apply to pets as well as players, allow stacking beyond the common speed cap so that scouts etc. gain a benefit.

Volleyfire: Instead of an autoattack have each group member do an AoE style attack with the default autoattack damage modifier centered on the selected target. Increase the HAM cost if need be.

Role designation: let the SL assign roles to players which will in a balanced fashion apply passive modifiers to role related abilities.

Flanking manuever: Allow the SL to target an enemy and issue a Flank Enemy command. Any attacks on that creature which are not within a 90 degree arc in front of it do extra damage.

Crossfire: A crossfire command could act as volleyfire does now giving a strong, negative to hit modifier to the targetted enemy for 1-3 rounds if it is successfully hit.

Inspiration: A single group member can be inspired to great feats granting a temporary stat buff

Last Stand: The group recieves a significant attack modifier at the cost of some defense in a last ditch attempt to finish off their enemies. Give it a very light HAM cost but add a long reset timer to the skill as per burst run.

Rapport: passive increased group mind regeneration rate, which improves as the SL advances up the tree

Discern tactics: The SL meditates for a period on the fighting style of the enemy after which the group gets a defensive bonus against that enemy for the remainder of the battle.

Just some more logs on the fire.

In a shameless atempt to get this class buffed--- please consider that a potent SL profession will increase the likelihood of grouping significantly for many players. MMORPG metrics analysts fervently believe that this (increased grouping)will lead to more in game relationshiips and thereby to increased retention rate of the player base.

nice.

We should have a sticky thread with all ideas for new skills on it. Skills that have recieved special attention should be hilighted.

Hmmmm... weapons only a squad leader could use.. interesting... or another line of thought, hvy and special weapons ppl could only use while in a group with a squad leader.. Heavier than heavycommando weapons, specialized carbines and rifles...

i like

but DONT increase the HAM cost for anything. The HAM costs are already way too high.

i can NOT at the current time fight myself AND do SL skills at the same time. Usually i dont use any of the SL mods at all and just rely on the passive ones.

Volleyfire doesnt do anything that a red text /sys Target This command cant do with a good group

Rally doesnt do as description says, plus its a waste of HAM... 200+ for one cast and it fails too much

i liek these ideas. but the HAM costs r already too high. Why should our HAM cost any more than a weapon special...really. CH's dont use HAM for much of anything. Only class i can think of who has HAM worse than us is pikemen.

our HAM cost should be based off the highestHAM variable on the weapon we r using, imo.

I think Squad leaders need to give more passive bonus's. I mean you guys already have to handle your end in combat. I think they should be powerful but not stack until later levels in the class. I mean like lets say you have ability a,b ,c, d,e,and f. At lower levels as you aquire them you can only have one up. Then as you progress towards master you can have 2 up, then at master you can have 3 up. I dont list the bonuses as I am still working them over in my mind and well I wanted to hear what you guys think of as good bonus's to give in this matter.

I like this idea as it allows you to effect the group in a game mechanics way but still be able to use your abilities that you have earned outside the class. It also more importainly lets you focuson being a leader in a group. Most Squad Leaders I have met are awesome leaders they dont need abilities that make people fire on one target they got that at charater creation its called group say...

Ideas for cool passive ablities that I am working overare things like HAM regen boosts, a special defense mode to that helps the group take less damage in pve, a mode to help the group harvest more, stuff like that. Still in the idea stage I admit. But I like the idea of them being passive so the squad leader can focus on helping the group work together. i also think that by limiting how many a squad leader has going there should be no reason for them to have negative effects on the players to balance them. I think that by paying the points for the skills is more than enough for that.

Your thoughts?

More ideas:

Tactical Strike: Calls in an air strike, big fiery particle effects big AoE damage. Balance with HAM cost or lengthy timer.

Air drop:A support vehicle passes in the sky and drops a supply crate via parachute. It's a random crate of powerups, food, spices, med kits,or similar combat support items. The crate cannot be picked up from where it lands, but any group members can take one item from the crate by double clicking it.

Reinforcements: Summons 1-4 low to mid level NPCs (mercenaries or faction npc's depending on affiliation) who will assist in combat for 2-5 minutes.

Waylay: Creates an AoE based defensive debuff based on the SL's current position. Enemies dragged into this AoE will suffer reduced defenses as they have fallen into a strategic trap.

Radio silence: Group members will not show up on enemy radar until within 70m

Interesting. The only reason I suggested a possible increase in HAM for the volleyfire suggestion is that it would geometrically increase the potency of the skill as it is currently implemented. Of course it's easy to argue that this would be more balancing than overpowering considering how close to worthless the current volleyfire ability is.

More passives would definitely be cool, if they were appreciable. No need to tack on more skills that are so impotent as to go completely unnoticed by the majority of players.

More possibilities;

Official Recognition: a scaling faction point bonus for members of a SL's group increasing as the SL increases in level and restricted to the SL's faction

Furlough: ability to grant covert status

Commlink: ability to "hear" conversations from another SL oranother squad leader's group if both parties agree. This could be expanded upon to allow multiple squad leaders to work in tandem, perhaps sharing not just communications but also certain group modifying skills

At Ease: Increased regeneration rate for group members in camps and towns. This state is broken if a group member enters combat.

Tactical Database: Improved examination skill giving additional useful combat information about targetted enemies, assuming there is any useful information not already displayed by /examine

Why not allow Squad Leaders to actually use their active abilities while on a mount?

It seems that the devs don't believe you have enough control to scream out a word on a mount

That would be especially plausable in vehicles where the SL would have access to communication equipment.

Wow. Awesome ideas. I'd like to see some of these implemented. But alas, I'm just daydreaming.
