Thread: Thulium and others, an idea and a new concept.
im going out on a limb here becaus ei have never really seen anything quite like this posted.....at least not by my eyes.
Partially i borrowed some fo this idea from th egame i was playing prior to SWG, which was Earth and Beyond. Not really borrowing naything from it, just a sketchy concept and it's what got my brain buzzing on this. In E&B every Race (there were 3) had their own unique set of abilities....pretty much like any other MMORPG has different skills for different classes. What struck me to make this post was that Humans int he game had an effect called Rally. Rally did X effect at level 1, at level 2 it did that effect PLUS another effect, at level 3 it did the prior 2 effects and added a 3rd, and as the levels of Rally progressed u were able to do more things with it.
Like at level 1 you could increase your to-hit ratio. At level 2 you increased your to-hit AND damage, at liek level 7 you made yourself more stealthy and all the previous effects rolled into 1.
So.....this has go tme thinking:
CURRENTLY we have a whole schlameel of skills dotted throughout the profession. We have volleyfire, boost morale, steady aim, rally, retreat, proposals for 2 variants of volleyfire, target painting, formup, etc etc etc......along with all of our passive skills.
WHAT IF we kept and enhanced our passive skills.....as needs to be doen anyone....but we reduce the overall # of skills we have. As i look at some of the ocmbat proffs you see a pattern. This line has Area attack 1, 2, 3....this line has pistol whip 1 and 2, this line has this type of atatck...etc. WHy not do the same for SL.
Instead of having rally and formup and steady aim..... why not roll them into one.
In leadership you would have Rally 1, which grants slight to-hit modifers. At tier 2 you get Rally2, which gives to-hit modifers PLUS cures dizzy/blind/etc states, at tier 3 you get just more passive defenses liek we currently have. At tier 4 you get rally3 which would have to-hit modifiers, the formup abilities, AND added defense's all rolle dinto the same thing.
In Tactics you could have Volleyfire1, which does base volleyfire effect, tier 2 you get volleyfire2 which increases the damage and hits lowest pool, at tier 4 you get volleyfire3 which increases damage output/ hits weakest (or lowest) pool/ and lowers HAM cost all in the same roll.
i could go on but i think most of you will see what im saying.
Keep what passives we have now and bulk those up as needed. But instead of jumbling ourselves up with a TON of different commands and such.......to the point of havign to yell out 6 or 7 commands to get ALL the desired effects with a HUGE waste of HAM......roll them over. Simplify it. Give us 1 skill for each and every branch, that steadily increases in value and does mroe with each "advance" of the skill.
Maybe give us paint target at master and soemthing at novice as well.
but simplify it. Instead of having 20 different commands as some of these proposals (and even ones i myself have had).....roll em into each other and simplify it.
So, now that my long post thats not well typed because it's 3am is over...what are your thoughts.
and the HAM cost for the skill should be a SET VALUE......cuz i know some peopel are gonan think "well if i only want to do THIS effect but i have to spend twice a smuch HAM to cast rally3 than i do rally1 then thats just stupid."
that is not the case. I think what should be done is have a set HAM value for every skill. Rally costs this much....Volley costs this much....etc. As the squad leader increases his knowledge, experience, and attributes he learns to communicate and enhance his squad betetr. he can do more with what he is given. Therefore he can just increase the value of what he is doing without increasing his personal costs to do so.
Your just saying...he is expending X amount of his will (or what have you) to make this effect happen.....and a more experienced Squad Leader can do more and focus more things with that cost to himself.
So...to put it in simplest terms.... ALL levels of a skill would cost the same as the base skill. If rally1 cost 100 mind points, rally3 will cost 100 mind. If Volley1 costs 200 action, then volley3 will cost 200 action. The experienced SL is able to do more with his energy thna a novice one.
