Hey folks.

Name's Sebca, Master Bioengineer/ Master Fencer on Flurry. Been looking at the Squad Leader skill tree. I don't see many SL around, and the profession seems to have a healthy amount of brokenness along with the workingness. Sounds just like my type of class (see above)

I came to the realization that I group 7 out fo 10 times that I play and that some of the people I play with regularly (almost ngihtly) could benefit greatly from some of the skills. My other classes are getting fixed enough that there is a huge stream of new players chasing wealth and uberness and unfortunately when that happens the general maturity level and intelligence of my classmates drops dramatically.

Can i get some opinions from you on what is great or lousy about this class, and some of the neat thigns I could do? I'm about 85% PVE and 15% PVP, is there a great advantage to either? Im seeing the ability to cure Dizzy state, that appears intriguing for PVP especially, and my wife who I play with every day had to drop Exploration so I am wondering about the bonuses to group terrain negotiation, if it's enough so that we don't have to wait for her at the top of every hill hehe.

I don't chase holos so if I picked up the class it would be strictly out of interest and intrigue.

Any thoughts?

SL will give you: +60 to groupTN. You need +50 to go up hills with no penalty. It will give you +60 to group burst run. That's a 60% reduction in your burst run cost. You will give +30 to range and melee defense. /Formup works every time but doesn't work for pets. /Steadyaim gives a good one time bonus to hit (what that bonus might be is anyone's guess.) /Boostmorale moves wounds amongst the party. Instead of one big doc stim to get rid of your wounds you could require as many as 20! /rally gives a bonus to hit and defense (again your guess is as good as mine) but prevents people from: Rezzing, sitting, harvesting, anything not allowed when in combat state. /sys allows you to send a system message which could be accomplished by: Spatial, Group, Chat function. Hmm. Think thats it. Did I miss a useless command?

Its fun to be able to say you are a squad leader. But if you are looking for bang for you leadership buck I'd say check in on Combat Medic or Doc. Either of those will give you more than SL does I'm afraid to say.

This is not to say the profession won't be improved in the future. Its just a matter of which future it might be. Is it the one where we all have evil looking goatees? Who can say...

DiLune....

Pardon me if this sounds rude, but Why are you in here so much lately? Not that I mind. Are you the new unofficial Squad Leader correspondent.. I haven't seen Thulium around in a while...

I wonder if Thulium has silently gone the way of CaptV..

We are just lucky that Dilune cares about this profession. Since he is a fellow SL.

Thulium has been tied up at work recently and has not been able to get online. I never see him on TC either. But hopfully he can get back on soon.

Well, yeah. Marksman boards are quiet. I mean, have you seen how many posts I get a day? There's more happening here than there is over there.

And yeah, I've been SL for...well just about forever. I was SL back in the days of Volatris...

Hananoken to answer your questioin SL isn't that good for PvE but it helpls out a lot in PvP, so unless you are heavy PvP don't go SL.

/formup is good for PvE or PvP, but I find it is much more appreciated in PvP.It works great on PvE too, but I find you get dizzy/stun a lot more in PvP.

I use /steadyaim to help people get weapon skill, like when they are novice marksman or novice BH with an LLC and can't hit anything. It is a very small cost to me and I have never seen someone miss when I use /steadyaim.

Volley Fire is good but it fails so much. I try to use it in PvP but I tend to just drain most of my mind away doing it. Still, it can be useful.

/boostmorale depends on who you are with. If you are with a doctor, chances are they would rather do one heal for 120 wounds than heal 5x 20 wounds. This skill made me good money it used to work on pets and ATSTs.

/retreat I don't use. When I got it I used it a lot, but it is a large penalty to the SL and my squad got a burst run bonus for only a few seconds. Even now as MSL it just isn't a good advantage. Still, if you aren't in any danger you can give your non-scout groupies some extra speed.

/rally works pretty good. The down-side is that when you are rallied you can't do a lot of thingslike harvest, sit down, I know TKAs can't do some things. More people complain in large groups, but when they don't it works good I use it in duels sometime.

The mobility tree works great for any non-scouts. When my squad is on foot, you'd be amazed how much praise you get when some people claim they must be flying they are going so fast. Speeders and mounts go faster than a master scout with MSL terrain negotiation bonuses, but still good even in PvP when you have to be on foot.

There will be a lot of changes. There will be a lot more Squad Leaders soon enough when the changes come to TC, and I mean more as in ones that want to be not the ones that have to for their holo. Ok bye!
