Thread: On the whole faction pet control/player only debate
I know I speak for alot of folk, but alot of us made SL characters with the idea to lead a squad of Reb Commandos or a squad of StormTroopers. Plenty of people have said have your squadies 'dress up' but we all know for the cost the armor sucks and thus don't use it, not to mention the impracticality.
The problem is this, the Imps have the AT-ST and there is no Reb counterpart. To an lesser extent there is no counterpart to the Dark Trooper either. The Devs will never allow multible AT-STs or even a single one with troops. This is because the Devs made the poor choice in relation to the cost, power, and PC command level of troops (rank). They need a total revamp of this system.
Now, the natural conclusion is that a SL character, even though he has no tie what-so-ever to this mess with the Faction troops, is made to lead an entire group of troops. I fully believe that NPC or PC troops should not matter in this reguard. Any sane person will prefer RL troops over NPC, but does it matter? It should not matter one bit. In fact I am willing to say that our skills should take that into reguard. Right now our abilities effect that NPC trooper without the need of wasting tree slots, so keep it that way. I played when you could have 3NPCs and it wasn't a problem then to control them, why is it a problem now? It shouldn't be, all most of us are asking is that a SL, as a leader character, have the option to lead more NPC troops than a Medic, a Marksman, a Scout, or any other profession.
Now people say that they do not want to see us become NPC handlers, but I covered that above. Others saythat they do not think we should be 'solo' characters. I say bull to that as well.We as a Profession have just as much of a right to solo as a Entertainer or Artisan, Commando or Bounty Hunter. We make due at the best of our abilities, and if those abilities should be leading a groupof NPCs, then so be it.
