Thread: Squad Leader thoughts and a potential solution (Please Read)

It seems to me that much of this game as it is approached from the developers point of vew, it aimed at improving the galatic civil war. As some of you may or may not know, I was formerly a master SL but dropped it for the moment to do some other things. I chose squad leader to specifically lead my friends into battle.


Aside from personal role playing, I could not find any skill that got me fired up to be a squad leader each day. Rally is so/so, many of my group yelled at me becuase they could not harvest while rallied (why would you do this devs?). Volley fire could be so neat if I were able to direct my group to fire on a target and they would automatically continue to hit that target (also seems like an easy fix).


What is missing from SL is one thing we can hang our stripes on. One skill that we can hit F9 over and over until we need to replace our keyboard. As a master pistoleer, I never get tired of pistol whipping people, and apparently commandos never get tired of lighting me on fire, and bounty hunters enjoy eye shotting me over and over.


As an elite profession that is aimed at leading a group, throw SL's a bone, at the master level, give them a "take cover" command (improve ranged defense temporarily even more than the static bonus), give them a "hold your position" command that fortifies melee defense further than the existing bonus, and lastly give them a "fire at will" command that temporarily increases their damage or to hit modifiers.


Imagine the fun of playing squad leader from a role playing standpoint with these commands and the idea that you could really change the flow of battle depending on your foe. A good leader can direct their troops to aid in any situation. I sincerely hope this idea is considered or debated because it is a simple thing that would make a world of difference.

Anyone out there with any thoughts? Or has the emporer (SWG)driven the good from you all fully?

You have some good ideas there... but they fit in with what we already have. Almost.

Rally is supposed to boost defense and raise the to hit mods.. I think, as I never ever use it.


Bringing up your point about increasing melee defense and mods like that. A good option is to take advantage of the new damage mitigation system. A "Hold your ground" command could give a temporary level 1 mitigation for melee. A "firefight" command would give the same temporary buff but with ranged mitigation.


Though I have heard that mitigation doesnt stack... so if a player has mitgation 3 from being a master pistoleer then anything we do won't help them. Oh well we will just have to see.

My personal belief is we should have Anti Mitigation skills, things that Negate our targets Mitigation.... Pass through them.



Squad Leader groups need to be able to do more dammage then non Squad Leader groups.... Deal out more dammage in a concentrated manner that is... *focus fire on one target etc...* And Overcharge shot 2 from everyone in the group into one target.... That would be an amazing volley fire skill, wouldn't it?

Yeah... mitigation negation would work better since currently the system doesnt stack.

Excellent points gentlemen......what I think is coming forward from squad leaders now is not an overpowering command or use, but the desire to feel like your profession is contributing to the battle. Rally is vague and exactly its effect on the battle is vague. Lets get a concrete ability to sink our efforts into. The leader of a squad, when effective, has a noticeable effect on a groups performance. We don't currently have that.


Other random ideas


Squad Leader Armor and Weapon modifications (easy to be creative here) or a weapon certification


Raising the groups static to hit bonus (a well trained squad should be more efficient)


A Squad Leader mission terminal (a little hokie, but if it was done properly, would give groups of fighters some nice missions)


What I would really like to see is just some chat dialog between Devs and players...I know we have a correspondent but seeing that the right thing was done with CH, I would hope that cooler heads would prevail in SL.


Lets make squad leader more than just a nice concept
