Thread: An idea for a new skill tree

Squad: A small gorup of persons orgazined for a specific purpose.

Tactics: The art of deploying or directing troops.

Strategy: The science of military command as applied to the overall planning and conduct of large-scale combat operations.

A group of 20 would be considered a squad. That said, why do Squad Leaders have a Strategy tree? As I see it the skills under the tree offer more of a tactical advantage anyway.

So why not take the skills and mods and put all of them into the Tactics tree, and rename and revamp the Strategy tree? The most important thing in any combat situation (for the leader anyway) is to know where your troops are and when. So why not give SLs the ability to direct their group members. It would work something like this:

The SL gets an interface when they train the in Group Coordination tree. The interface would allow the SL to assign positions to each group member based on a set formation. As the SL goes up the tree (s)he would be able to direct more people and would have a wider range of formations to chose from. This would work something like auto follow where the group members would move along and could alter their course slightly or stop it altogether.

It allows Squad Leaders to better control a battle by having more control over their own people, and at the same time, it would not force anyone to simply trot along mindlessly. It would work well for the initial engagement with the enemy and could be turned off at any time by the SL.

Just a though from someone who isn't a SL (anymore) but has a great deal of respect for the profession.

Good idea about merging the tactics and strategy branches.

About your formation idea, I'm sorry to say, but that would not go over well with non-SLs. The whole "puppet master" thing and all...

The way you are going with it is good, though. You are focusing on coordination.

How about something like this? In this tree you have skills like /painttarget and the ability to see squad members waypoints? Same concept, coordinating battle efforts, but without forcing people to move.

Any other commands we can put in there?

-epiphony- How about putting a radar droid in there too? Something you could send out in a direction, and it would report back PCs on your radar. (only PCs. If it did NPCs too, we would be interfiering with rangers)

Personally, I kinda like the current skill trees, but I think some things should probably get re-arranged. I pulled as much as possible from the "wish-list" thread and tried to sort it into the appropriate trees. Following is a quick run-down of where I put everything. Items with an asterisk are proposed new abilities.

Let me know if I've missed anyone's ideas or if you think something should be moved around. Also note that this is a short rough version. Some things may be duplicated ideas with different names and other threads discuss the details of proposal. I just would like everyone's feedback about locations of skills within the current trees. Also keep in mind that there's currentlyno expectation to actually get any of these, I'm just trying to refine and classifyour suggestions to the devs.
