Thread: making Squad leader a Squad leader

when i first heard about Squad leader i thought of an imp running around with 10+ storm troppers in tow.... then i found out what it really is, a useless profession. ok fine it is good if you add it on to other stuff but if you put it alone, it is horrible.

i propose that Squad leader become the faction pets equivalent of CH. have skills like /orderlegshot

and have /order skills for every combat move so that SL has total control over the faction pets. then each faction pet has a repituare of which skills it knows.

Did i make that understandable?

I couldn't agree more!!! I have seen CHs running about with multiple pets, so why not do the same for the SL? Being able to use multiple faction pets would go a long way to making SL an interesting profession. The only drawback I could see is an Imp running around with 3+ AT-STs (I still think that 'pet' was a mistake... ). Your /ordersuggestion is great! Back when we could have multiple pets, I had one that would stay back and fire with me, but one ALWAYS charged into melee and promptly got cut down. the /order would help there...

And while talking about pet getting cut down, why do faction pets 'die' while CH pet can be stored if they get 'killed'? I spent 375 hard earned fps on a troop, entered afirefight I shouldn't have, died, cloned, and tried to store the pet (like you can with droids and mounts). I was told hewas dead and had to destroy the pet control device!!!SL and CH pets should work the same. This really gives the Ch an unfair advantage...

Well, those are just some of my thoughts. I still think this is a great game, and am looking forward toany improvements and added features...

Excellent post, I agree completely.

I would even go so far as to suggest that we should be able to recruit our own CorSec, FedDub, and RSF bodyguards. We are Squad Leaders after all, shouldn't we *always* be in a squad?

Awww come on tut... if your the same darthtut from SWGX... ^_^

How does this make us any different than a CH? How does this make us a leader at all? What about the nonfaction Squad leaders?

This idea would limit the profession in so many ways. First of all we would be limited to PvP and factional PvE. Second; This would turn us into a solo profession, which we are not.

The point of a Squad Leader is not to make yourself as a player more powerful... but make the group you are leadingmore powerful.

The only, and I mean ONLY, benefit Squad Leaders should get in regaurds to Faction Pets... is a reduced cost to get them (It makes more sense in my book, but it doesnt really matter.) And although our class is broken at the moment, we have the total combat revamp to look forward to... where we should get some changes made.

Sorry to shoot you down tut... but seriously, think about it. We are not a solo profession.

ok first off irott, for non faction SLs there would be RSF and and other NPCs. i am not doing away with the curent SL i am merely adding on. on the point about not being a solo profession, maybe make certain skills have better sucess rates when under a SL butother than that i don't see how you could make"the group you are leading more powerful. what is your idea on fixing SL? you seem very quick to shoot others' ideas down but not very willing to provide an alternative solution.

P.S. yes, i am the the same Darthtut from SWGX

I don't understand why so many people on this forum think there has to be a choice between the Squad Leader becoming completely people dependent or completely pet dependent.

For the record, absolutely no where in the instruction manual does it say that the Squad Leader was meant to lead only PC groups. I argue the position that we should be able to do both, and giving us our own form of faction trooper (like CorSec) would go a long ways in:

1.) making us more desirable to have in a PC group

2.) differentiating us from every other combat profession (even CH as their pets wouldn't have the variety of weapons our troopers would)

3.) giving us something to do with our skills when there aren't a lot of people on.

We need to take the skills that we have, throw them into the novice SL box, and then completely revamp the SL tree with pet bonuses, passive group bonuses that work, and bonuses designed specifically for aiding PC's in combat.

Simply put, NO!

We are not Pet handlers of any sort, we work with Players and MAKE THEM BETTER... We do not rely on Pets unless we have spent points in CH

The point here, being, is that the vast majority of us feel as we are and should be player-group focused - any suggestions or inklings that we want tons of faction pets MORE than all of the other stuff we've asked may result in us getting that ability INSTEAD OF passive combat bonuses, or /aimfor, or fortifications, or guns.

At least, that's the idea that makes me wince when I read this. I'm not saying it isn't a good or valid idea. I"m just saying that most of us would quit the job immediately if this is what Squad Leader became or the direction it went in.

not all of us have the opertunity to to group with PCs! i can ussually only play at 5:00 EST when there are no people around.

it would be very hard to make us essensial to a group other than adding lots of skill mods, which is crap. the thing that makes groups powerful is stradagy, and you can do that without an SL(but most people in this game are not smart enough to plan out tactics with or with out an SL).

No Darthtut, because you play at an irregular hour I want you to take those 100 or so skill points and flush them down the toilet. That's right: watch them go around and around. Now bask in the glory that is Squad Leader because you are now a part of the only profession completely dependent on other people! Congratulations!

The sad thing is I bet NPC faction pets are smarter than the average SWG player. At the very least the pets ALWAYS follow orders...
