Thread: I can't understand the pessemism.

Honestly... I've been a squad leader twice, and both times I loved doing it. It's distinctive, useful, and fun (for me). I don't see why a lot of people feel like the specials are broken completely, they seem to work fine, although maybe not in the application originally designed for them.

Skills: Group Melee/Ranged defense : +30 melee/ranged defenses. Ah.. now how much would any defense stacker pay to be able to add 30 to their melee or ranged defense? Hmm... sure, there's no proof that it works, but since it's a simple matter of adding to the skills, and since our OTHER skill that adds to skills (GTN) seems to work, well, i think we can let the dev's do the math. And on the subject of GTN, there's been more than one time as a Carbineer that terrain negotiation saved my butt from a fencer i was kiting around. If, say, that fencer/TKM/MBrawler with no room for scout in his skills had a SL with GTN handy, then thud.. dead me.

Specials: /rally: as stated: adds to combat defense and to hit modifiers. That's pretty much what I use it for, just before the fight and whenever it drops during the fight i put it up to give us combat bonuses. It used to make people mad because they couldn't heal while it was up, but a stealth fix seems to have snuck in recently because people can now.

/retreat: i love this special. a totally free burstrun for everyone in the group except me. so what do i do? i activate it, then burstrun myself. when my burst runs out, i activate it again and suck down a parawan. i can keep that up as long as i have room for food. When i'm out of food, well, that's when i give them the final push out and then start generating my bike. Overall effect: How about when your entire group can chase down that jedi by burstrunning forever?

/formup: Cures dizzy and stun states in everyone in the party in sight, provided the SL isn't dizzy'd or stunned themselves. Yeah.. i love this one too, since dizzy/pd and stun/intim are some of the favorites of melee people, curing them can save lives and give your side a distinct advantage over the enemy.

/boostmorale: This really has limited scope, but the most advantagous way to apply it in combat is to use it to counter the effects of wound causing effects such as disease or fire, OR to keep your CM doing mindheals as long as possible. Personally, i've been on the receiving end of a 350/tick mindfire pike and wished i could share the love with some of my teammates before

/steadyaim: Umm. Ok.. well, it's hard to be totally optimistic sometimes... generally i tend to /steadyaim right after every rally and whenever I think about it, just to help provide the extra 25 or whatever to accuracy.

/volleyfire: well.... this one is hard to call too. I honestly don't use it very often, since it has kinda limited application in a setting where everything is based off specails, since all it does is call for a single shot from everyone in the group. I may need to experiment with it (or maybe someone already has) to see if all the shots are counted as one total or if they're considered seprately... even so, i've been able to get good results from this occasionally (most notabley when i was grouped with four ATST's...)

Ok, and the final point about 'Oh my god, who is this insane person?? If i used most of these abilities I'd DIE!!' Please. I never go out to do anything unbuffed anymore. And that includes using two brandies and three ahrisa for most pve or brandy/canape/synth for pvp. Set yourself up right and you can get a full group, spaming /rally /formup and /retreatforever and never get charged a thing ham-wise.

In endium, i just don't feel like the Squad Leader profession is such a bad one. AND i have a feeling that after the rebalance, when pvp and pve are both MUCH more centered around the group combat (one rumor i've heard is that two people grouped would have an advantage over two identical templates nongrouped) I think this profession will shine a lot more. So don't give up yet, Novices, and if you're crusty and old and set in your ways.... DIE ALREADY.

/retreat sucks if you have jedi in the group, it overrides their forcerun. i love the profession but i think the second tree could use some work and maybe a little boost in the master box

Well lets take a different look at this... Jedi in this game are like the Empire you see in the movies: All over the place.

While Squad Leaders are seen on only very rare occasions, which is more in line with the Jedi in the movies.

Squad Leaders = good

Jedi = bad

Hmm I'm surprised.

There are very few people who dislike jedi as well. I was just trying to appeal to all those jedi lovers out there...

Let me fix that then.

Squad leader = Better than everything else.

Jedi = bad, crime, worthlessness, plague, sadness, cancer, terrorism, bee stings, overdue bills, etc...

Krayt Dragon Pearl

Are you still a master squad leader in Ahazi, DiLune? Or am I the only one getting free buffs around here out of sympathy?
