Thread: Pistol or Rifle for Squad Leader?

I'm thinking of becoming a squad leader. Currently, I have expert rifle and pistol trained. If I was to focus on just one which would be better? Pistol seems good if you were going to lead the charge in, but rifle seems like it would be good if you were going to hang back and get a better view of the battlefield.

Any advice would be greatly appeciated. I'm not sure which way to go.

Thanks.

well alot of SLs like carbine....i personally play a rifleman sl and it works great for me...i usually stay back in a fight to give my orders and i find rifle compliments this...however i think rifle drains alot of mind with most its rifles and im not shure how pistols handle this so you might want to look into this....mind is a sl best friend =)

There is a saying; a good leader leads from the front.

Being visible is half of what being a squad leader is all about. You are the center of attention for them, and they will serve by your example. If you are always in the back trying not to get hit, then that is what your group will do. If you are in the front dishing out damage, and when necessary to prevent an incap/death, taking damage, your squad will do the same and live a lot longer. A pistol is conducive to this, although you can get away with a carbine too, butI think rifles force you to be too far back from the action to lead effectively.

Going for Squad Leader with Rifle myself--as well as try to do Master Rifleman or something like that(at least get it to where I'm the designated Sniper).

(Here'sa dumb question: What on earth are the requirements for this prof? The book says all you need is Survival IV. But it seems like you need Exploration IV! Any definitive answers?)

Survival 4, Explore 4, Range Support 4, then you'll need another 7.5k or so Combat XP to qualify for Novice SL

Carbines seem popular with SLs but personally I'm going with pistol. Lower HAM costs on the pistol specials, and has good defensive factors.

I'm a Zabrak with max willpower, so I soak up mind damage like it wasn't even there...none of the other professions look interesting to me anymore, so it looks like I'm going to be a squad leader/rifleman/swordsman. Combat medic would be good for me too, but I'm a control freak when it comes to grouping.

No, you CAN'T run 150m off the path so we can gank a falumpaset and earn 100xp each, we're leaving you...

I go rifle, but remember that that doesn't mean I HAVE to go farther back. I go rifle because I can hurt mind pool, and that often stops people from being able to do their specials. You don't have to hang around back at 64m.

Also, though it may seem wimpy, it's not a good thing if the squad leader gets low on HAM. Then they can't so their SL specials. So.
