Thread: Brain Daed Groupmates?
OK, I am a striving SL...I'm a casual gamer so am not even close ![]()
However, as I grind away solo to get the exp I need....I have taken breaks to group with others and work on my group skills.....so far it has been an utter disaster!
I came from EQ, where I played for 4 years....I was in the same guild for the vast majority of that time, and we worked together like a well oiled machine. The nights we went after Vindi or Track was a thing of beauty (most of the time).
However, my experiences so far in SWG groups, the players seem completely ignorant of group play...how to get into position, how to know ones roll, how to support eachother.
I know the game is new, but these are basic skills one should know...unless the SWG fan base is made up of alot of people who have little or no real experience with MMOG group dynamics.
Anyway..is anyone else having this problem? What have you done to try and get a group controled and organized and work like they are supposed to?
You need to teach those who don't know the art of combat, how to do it.
Just the other day I was in a group of 8 people doing destroy missions, when the group leader (who must have been a real newbie) stopped in the middle agressive red con kima.
For those who aren't familiar with kima they are found on Talus, are very sturdy but move at a snail's crawl.
So what does everyone automatically do... Kneel down and start firing. 4 members were incapped and 2 were DB'ed due to the fact that nobody even considered to stand up and move out of the reach of the kima. I was competely dumbstruck that people died from a kima.
The thing is that when you tell people to do something, they tend not to do it. They don't find it fun. But I don't worry about that. I am sure they will find it less fun getting wailed upon by 12 red-con smugglers. I know I do.
Death is a good teacher, They tend to listen after that.
There's a good tip on this forum about sending yourself an ingame e-mail with "rules for my groups" in it, that you then forward to all people who join your group. Explain things like loot order, harvest order, what's expected, etcetera.
You could make a similar mail to forward specifically to newbies. "If you aren't sure about fighting or don't have a lot of experience with it, send me a /tell" and then forward them a mail explaining how to fight.
I've usually had the opposite scenario. Every group I've been in, everyone knew the basics (and this was back in the first week), the few exceptions I've seen have been the times when someone wouldn't have a clue, so I'd take them hunting and teach them the basics of combat and simple strategies.
Of course, I'm on Starsider, Corellia, where are you on?

This one, I should slap over the head for, but I won't.
The Devs are aiming this game at people who played MMORPGs before. Eight letters on the front of the box say that: STAR WARS. Another thing they also said was that the game was aimed toward casual players. Sorry, if I sound too sarcastic, but when you miss the obivious, it's kinda hard not to make fun of them.
