You have to be the leader in big groups and stay close to other ppl during the fight.
They will let you gain SL exp quite fast. The bigger the group the better exp gain!

Please don't flame if this has been answered a thousand times before. But I'm totally confused.
I thought I'd grind Fencer and Squad Leader at the same time. So, I get Novice Squad Leader, log my alt, call some pets and group up to see what happens. My alt and pets stay at my house.
I kill some stuff, and no Squad Leader (SL) exp. I figure it was because I was doing melee, so I switch to a pistol, same thing... no SL exp. So I figure others must do the damage to get the exp and pretty much forget it.
So, I just group my my pet for group exp bonus which is parked at my house and start to solo Fencer again. All of a suddon I see that I got SL exp. Now I try to figure out what I did... a stun, a blind, another creature hit it, a burst run? I didn't do any SL calls.
I cannot figure out what I did to get SL exp. Any ideas?

I had a group of 7 or 8 at the Tusken Fort and later at the squill caves. Raked in about a million xp in 2 hours.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'm going to Tusken Fort or Squll Caves after I master Fencer which should take 8 hours (1403 now).
It could be a distance problem. Sometimes I'll get SL exp sometimes I won't when the pet is parked at the house. When the pet is with me, I always get SL exp. I have two alts and when I group with them and their pets, the exp is substantial, and I only need to have one with me to guarantee full exp.
My goal during fencer and pike grind is to get 4 in something in SL to sandbag as much exp before going to the trainers.
