Just recently I've taken up sl for my guild inorder to provide support in pvp. Now, from the exp parties we've been doing to actually help me lvl sl, I've been more of a "back row, try not to get killed rest alot" type of sl. I haven't had the chanse to actually be used as sl in any pvp raids yet because I'm waiting to actualy master sl, but I would assume to an extent in pvp I would still be a back row player because of what I am (sl).

I'm trying to stay purely a support role, with sl being my main, and the camp and tracking trees in ranger. The problem with this though is it leaves me 1.) Defenseless and 2.) Basiclly 0 damage output incase I do get attacked. So my question is this...

After reading around trying to find a viable means to compliment my "Support role" in case I do get into a spot where I am being targeted by the enemy, I've been taking into consideration taking up fencer for the VERY VERY nice defense, dodging stats by going up the 1st and 3rd trees I think it is. I'm ok with not being a hitter, but being defenseless is not something I'm actually very fond of.

Is this viable? Does anybody have any personal experience with a SL/Fencer combo? Would it be my best option to make sure I'm not just a sitting, easy to kill, target? Would it infact provide me with the resources I would need to actually survive long enough for my attackers to be taken out by the more capable players? Any input or help no this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt suggest NOT having a good amount of combat capabilities as a squad leader. Part of supporting your squad is to save dying squad members by taking out targets that are attacking them. Forget the ranger part, have someone else come as a master ranger or just with the tracking and camping trees. Id suggest master carbineer/master squad leader. That template gives you a great crowd control ability with an area KD attack and an area stun/dizzy/blind attack. You could do a lot to help your squad out with this template. You could also do master rifleman/master squad leader like me if you want to go out and pvp by yourself sometimes.

If you want just the basics out of SL you can get 0213 SL for formup, steady aim, and retreat. Then you can spend your points elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply ^^. Taking into account what we needed and what you suggested, I opted to Master SL, then run 0440 in Ranger and 0034 in Carb, which gives me all the trees with the attacks you mentioned plus all the non broken or redundent specials AND range defence. I can still set up raid camps and track the enemy with ranger, then I'm able to lay down excelent support to the troops with some of the best carb specials. And then master sl which is always a plus.
