While I agree that SL should be mainly focused on leading a team, I believethere should be benefits to being a SL without a group.
Personnally I would like to see defenses, in particually status defenses. Without attack bonuses it limits its desireability for stacking.
The reason I feel that some personal benefits are needed, is to aid in survival in combat.
As a Master SL/Pistoleer I find it difficult to keep up with my guildmates in dungeon situations where enemies are numerous, the melee professions are not fast enough to draw their aggros. The DWB is a particullarly bad situation where SBD's will habitually target me from rooms away without me attacking a thing (anyone else run into this? I have been there about a dozen times and its the same thing every time). That alone is a phenominom that troubles me. Regardless I lack the ability to stay with those under my command. Making the points I spent on SL all the more useless.
Additionally there are many times when I only have an hour or so to be on.
It usually takes half an hour to get guildies together let alone get to somewhere. So I often solo, and while I like the thought of helping my guildies out as their leader (if we had more usuable abilties) I would still think my "leadership insight" would be applicable to myself as well as my team even when by myself.
I know some of you are strictly against any SL bonuses that would work outside of a group. I would like to hear your arguments why a Squad Leader would be useless outside of group.
And/or other reasons why SL should have benefits outside of teams.
Yes this has been delt with before, but often quite unrationally. I would like to hear some well thought out reasoning for either side.
Perhaps you could change my view.

Because we're Squad Leaders. Isn't it obvious?
I mean, the point of spending the points is to enhance a GROUP. I do think a SL should get some bonuses to himselfwhilstcommanding a larger group, but without the group he is just an importantlooking soon to be stampeded down kind of guy.
Custer was nothing without his army, Hitler was just an angry little man that committed suicide when his soldiers were gone, napoleon was a tiny little man that was repeatedly imprisoned once his "squad" dumped him,Attila the hun was probably a badass but still didn't try to solo europe, William Wallace was a scary scot but was captured due to treason from the ones he would depend on,Darth Vader lost his escort whilst trying to blast his brats ship down, but said brat had a more loyal squad and won the day.
Are you starting to see a pattern here?
Once the squad is gone, you have only yourself to rely on.
If soloplay is your thing, you are in the wrong line of work.

For the times that I solo I group with my trusty probot with 3800 HAM (not the best but can take a beating). Then I can rally which gives me better defenses than if I was alone. Not sure if the melee and ranged defense bonuses are effective but like I said, it's better than nothing.

sorrry completly off topic, if i remember correctly Custer got his arse kicked even with his army (granted he didnt bring enough of it) I doubt Little Big horn would be a huge tragedy if he was the only that died.

Custer lost the battle of little big horn because he was a narcissist that thought that as long as HE lead, they would win every time.
Guess someone waved the nerfbat at him in the end

Through im uncertain but I think that you can receive Squad leader benifts from grouped pets.
Yeah I know it's a shame but what can you do? I try and get grouped every single time I get..
Carbiner doesn't offer me much defense so I have to receive and take and become leader of a group

You do, but the exact amount of it I'm uncertain.

I don't think Custer got nerfed. He just never grinded his leadership tree after Westpoint because he DID graduate from the academy as one of the lowest in his class
