One discussion that I've had witgh a friend is the "what if the got rid of AP"
The replacement would be some sort of profession specific quest.
If that were to happen I would think the following "quest" would work well for SL.
The trainer tells you to gather 10 people and walk from one outpost on Yavin IV to the other. You can have buffs and stuff, but you CANNOT have anyone ride a vehicle during the march. Everyone who starts with you has to finish and there can only be so many deaths (bring a doc since you might need a rez or two)
I think that would be a good test of SL to get master.
What do you guys think? Could you come up witha better SL proffesion quest?

Well I have thought of many ideas for SLs that involve group missions, but I am putting all of that in my dynamic mission proposal.
But I do like the idea of Getting rid of AP and having profession specific quests. Look how successfull the FS quests are, something along the same lines could be done.

I had an idea about removing AP in the sense that we know it, but still having the system in place if you follow me. There's 4 trees. Have each completed tree grant 1/4 of the required AP to master. If you fill all 4, then obviously you can master the profession. But, it's not that simple. There's 7 starting professions and 7 days in a week. Each starting profession and its associated elite professions can only train master one day of the week. If you miss it, you're SOL for another week. But as an added bonus, have the AP for a profession pertain only to that profession. If you drop what you've done, then what you've accumulated is gone.

Although ineteresting I think that system would wind up punishing players with restrictive play schedules. Also what do you do about Hybrid proffessions? SL requires more scout than marksman which day would we be able to train? Bio engineers require medic and scout, smugglers require brawler and marksman. You get the idea.
Also if you make AP restrictive to that profession only you end up with some professions easy to require AP (TK) but rareified professions like ours become harder to train and get the AP in.

Sure..
and image designers could only be master if they made 10 bothans not lookpart rat part elf.
dancers/musicians would have to spend 5 hours NOT afk, socializing for their mastery.
Rangers will spend10 hours in the wilderness convincing rancors that the shinylights surrounding the camp is meant to keep them out and should hence not enter. Failure means dropping one level in frontier.
All combat professions would have to defeat a krayt dragon not using violence.
Doctors would be fined 100000000000 credits for having paid poor people to inflict wounds onthemselves to put said doctors through their education, which is highly inethical ya know. Coming to terms with that would make them better docs, and attain mastery.
etc.
lots of interesting new options.
I just don't see that quest working. Maybe if SOE actually put some work into day to day activity on servers, THEY could appoint masters or something, but since that kind of interaction will NEVER happen, AP doesn't seem so bad.

Well I like the idea of profession specific quests. And if it is done right it would show that you know how to use the tools of your profession. The problem is that alot of professions(especially the crafting ones) you can grind through and get master without actually knowing how to play your profession.
Although it would be good for SOE to personally hand out mastery badges with teh number of players it just isn't feasible. So you have to design tests that wouldreally examine whether you know what you are doing or not.
