I have a few ideas for SL that I would like to see, some may have been mentioned before:

Remove it as a profession, instead combining it with the faction ranking system, and aquired when you reach say, sgt. It could be totally optional, that is all sgts dont have to be SLs if they dont want to.

Rebel SL an Imperial SL would be completely different in playstyle but share similar abilites , such as the ones they have now that work well ( terrain negotiation, burst run etc.)

The main difference would be faction troops. Imps should be able to have a heck of alot of weak ones and rebels shouldnt have em at all.

example: Novice Imp SL: +5 grp terrain/burst run (PCs only) +15 command level : same as CH but applies only to Stormtroopers and Specialist trooper certifications gained throughout the skill tree. Each certification would also have a command level associated with it ie. at novice Stormtrooper CL15 , further in the tree you might get + Dark trooper 20, + storm trooper 30, and at master, a certification for +AT-ST CL 50.

Also, you would recieve, instead of seperate pet control devices in your datapad, ONE Squad control device that would act similar to the JTL Flight Computers. It could be configured with say 1 level 50 AT-ST, if you have the required Command Level (50) and the cert: Imperial Master Squad Leader or 10 level 5 Stormtroopers. All of the numbers are hypothetical of course as , for balance purposes, a Colonel might need a higher command level than 50.

Squad Ldr exp would be earned by using your squad in combat situations. A bonus could be gained by grouping with other Imperial Squad Leaders.

On the Rebel side they would be more like a bard from a typical fantasy role playing setting. They would get higher bonuses to terrain negotiation/burst run as well as special rebel only abilites such as an ability to jam radar, deploy traps (aquired from rebel only weaponsmiths and deployable only by rebel SL's) droids that handle all of the structure commands needed to take down a base (aquired by Rebel only DE's and again deployable only by SL's). The ability to deploy a temporary ambush kit (crafted by SL's but needing crafted parts from DE's and Weaponsmiths , again rebel only. Would act like a camp kit sorta but be invisible til triggered by the SL.

At Master Reb's could get an ability to set up a temp starport anywhere in the wilderness (normal building restrictions applying) that other rebels could access via starport terms on the world or a rebel space station that is in the planets system.

Alliance squad leaders would gain squad leader xp by grouping with other PC alliance members and recieve a bonus by using their special abilities in combat situations.

Other possible abilities/master abilities could be bomber strikes, heavy ground assaults (Spawn a 60 Second at-at to attack your target), distress signals that alert other faction members in your area (range could increase as you climb through the tree) etc..

Any comments?

in addition: Squad Leader only weapon certifications (of course!). At least a pistol, a carbine and a rifle with perhaps some special shots to go along with the weapons.

I saw someone mention an e-web somewhere and that is sorta what I was thinking too though it would be different for each faction. Rebels would get one that a rebel commando could use in the group, Imps would get a commando stormtrooper to load into the "squad" via the datapad.

Another Master Ability could be the return of the large group! Give Squad leaders the ability to form up 2 groups into one as long as two SL's are present.

Would be a slap on the right side of their face for current squad leaders, after already being slapped on the left. I'd rather have someone dedicated to group leadership then anyone with enough fp.

Sound like an "I want my own little solo squad" idea....again. No offense, but the majority of people who play SL do it for group leadership, not so they can tote around more pets. With the faction armor and new system, I'd suggest joining a guild and establishing yourself as the combat leader or at least one of them. It's much more effective than controlling pets. This is a dead horse that's been beaten into the ground.

I'd like to see some sort of bonus as you go up the ranks for the general population. Anything to make rank worth while.

However I've joined Squad Leaders to lead my guild mates more effectively in PvP. I want them fighting harder, giving them a boost to moral and calling in damn Star destroyer bombardments A few releative weapon specials might be useful but leaders usualy don't fight up front. They oragnise there soliders into a move effective unit.

Ya, I posted in a thread where they were asking for ideas to make the GCW more interesting, having to do with ranks.Different ranks could have certain access to faction bases and POI's and more interaction. Also could be given different assignments depending on ranks that affect the GCW. I don't know if it would work or not but it would give the SL profession somthing to shine in.
