why do you need to waste 29 skill points for ranged support to be a melee squald leader?

or arent melee guys good enough to lead a group?

I like squad leader, but im dropping ranged weapons, to work on melee fighting.

i wish there were a melee support that you could use instead of the ranged one.

When you're an SL, it's not all about yourself. Just because you're amelee fighter, does not be someone else in your group won't be a ranged combatant. Are you going to be leading groups of strictly Melee fighters? The bonuses you receive are for the group, not just for yourself. I don't think i've ever seen a group solely comprised of Melee fighters for any length of time. An SL is there to support the entire group (at least it's supposed to be).

Cheers,

you didnt understand me,

im talking about the Ranged Support skills under the Marksman tree, why do i need those if im Melee to lead a group.

your a Pikeman, but still have to have marksman skills to be a squad leader. A waste of points in my opinion.

I think the general notion is that if you're a squad leader, you have to be in good position to asess the entire battle to effectively lead.[This does tend to bring up the brigadier general vs. squad leader argument raised a long long time ago.] If you're right up in the enemy's face, you can't really accurately see how the entire battle is going, especially if there are more than one enemy.

Pretty poor argument, huh? Well, how about this one...

The job of the Squad Leader is to SUPPORT the squad. Marksman has a 'Support' tree, whilst Brawler is lacking such a tree. If the Brawler trees were Unarmed/Swordsman/Pikeman/Support, then chances are Squad Leader would need that supporttree, also, but because someone decided to differentiate between one-handed sword, and two-handed sword, alas...

The defense bonuses for melee are good enough, plus those times when you do equip a gun it helps. Not carrying a gun as a melee, even if you don't have ranged skills is suicide in PVP and just plain not smart tactics.
