Squad Leader Archive
Thread: To pretty much prove a point.
First large guild hunt since changes.
Im in control of one squad. Full 20 people and we hit the tusken fort. I had about 50k SL experience going in. Guess how long it took me to cap out at 900k SL experience.
8 minutes.
I dont think I need to say much more.

Quoted for emphasis.
Well it kind of made it cheap but tonight I went from 4-0-0-0 to Master SL in about 5 hours. This was mainly because I was hunting at Tusken Fort so had to die, clone, train and run back out there whenever I hit 900k. If you had a fellow Master SL with you and a group of 20 people I would estimate you could go from novice squad leader to Master SL in a couple of hours.
Im very happy at making Master Squad Leader and unlike most people who are just doing it for the holocrons I will be keeping the skill for the forseeable future as part of my template.
Well I got a holocron on Thursday that told me to master Squad Leader... needless to say I wasn't happen, as I had no plans on it..
After one night of hunting in a group of 20 for about 3 hours, I got about 180 SL Xp.. Which I thought sucked, but was decent I guess... was just going to be a long grind..
Well I kinda put it down for a couple days to work on my other character, came back todayat 1/0/0/0, and about 5 hours or so later I was master...
When my cap was at 900k xp, I was maxing out in about 30 minutes or less, doing kunga mission on Dantooine in a group of 20. I would have hit master in 2.5 hours if I didn't have to fly all the way to Bestine to train every 30 minutes, which took me another 30 minutes travel.
Not saying it should be nerfed... hell I could care less, just saying get it while you can, because we all know it will change..lol
BTW, I'll allready dropped all of my squad leader skills...
i know thats the sad thing "grab it while you can". Thats exactly what it felt like. To be honest it almost felt like an exploit but of course its not. I do believe that if you hit Rancors in a group of 20 people out on dathomir with a Master SL in tow you could perhaps master it in under an hour.
Something wrong there and I can see it changing
Actually, if you all look at it...
...you're all in the largest groups, leading the best players, killing the toughest things.
Simple logic dictates; when leading combat troops against difficult targets, thorough victories develop confidence, effeciency, and knowledge, the keys to victory.
It's not completely unreasonable how you earn XP -- now if you get it killing gorgs, that's different.
Why's it any different than people mastering Commando in three days? (which has happened)
I mean holocrons just came out, and already people have gotten three, and mastered three whole professions in what, three weeks?
There's been artisan classes that if they're lucky, have enough money, and enough supplies and do nothing but grind, can master their class in a couple days.
If you work to earn your cut, and in four hours you spend that entire time with a group of 20 awesome characters, fighting the toughest creatures/persons in the game -- you earned it, you earn experience for what your squad does.
It balances, because when you solo, being a Squad Leader is useless. So then it doesn't matter if you've Mastered it.
Interesting theory Maestro. Our group had numerous masters of all proffesions and 3 or 4 "lesser" skilled players who was along to help out a little and level. I guess I might be in a unique position in that I control a guild of 160 members and we have regular hunts where I control a full squad of 20, with masses of master characters.
It still feels a little strange that I could master in a couple of hours at maximum if a fellow Master SL was with me at the time. I feel it should at least take 3 to 4 days of power gaming to master any skill.
Couldnt they just reduce the multiplier at the high end? I appreciate the formula is not too bad in smallish groups but the mutlipliers get insane as you get 15+ people. Like I said though, it was a good chance to master SL in a night so I took it as its part of my template.

We should not be able to master in a day. It's pathetic.
I agree, but then look at it this way:
Perhaps the devs have finally heard our cries and noted that the long, hard trip to Master SL was not worth any of our useless and stupid abilities.
The hard solution would be to recode Squad Leader into a useful and rewarding class.
The easy solution would be to remove anything remotely long or hard about the trip to Master SL.
I mean, dont get me wrong, I hate these new changes. I was 4 2 4 4 before this patch, and now I find out I couldve been Master today if I had been doing better classes for the past 2.5 months.
But at least the work and the payout finally match for SLs. They're both steaming piles of crap.
Well, you all have good points, but look at this from my side of the coin...
I play on tempest, where the hunts are few, and the hunters fewer. I have NEVER seen a squad of 20 people on tempest. Ever. so there goes my mastering in 5 hours... Also, I play a LOT, and ususally the best hunt i can muster up is 5 people. Sometimes more, more often less... In fact earlier today I was krayt hunting and getting 8k XP off a grand krayt. I have still mastered two of my trees in 3 days. I feel teh pace I am progressing is acceptable - not to fast, and not too slow. And i feel THIS is the norm for squad leaders, not 20 men killing tuskens (was tehre a tusken left alive after the 8 minutes? If so you did something wrong)
and one final thought - A novice entertainer with a single crate of muon gold, the right macro and a helpfull Master can get master ID from SCRATCH in 12 hours. I've done it.
A novice artisan can get master tailor in 24 hours, with a big enough pile of resources. I've done it. (not all at once though)
Taking me a week of ACTUAL WORK (not grinding, not macroing, and actually risking life and limb) to master an elite profession is not unreasonable to me.
argggg , i had to do it the hard way and now there is going to be a flood of masters?
hehe
j/k
maybe now we can get some attention.
Master SL for almost 4 months now. Glad i didn't have to go through the XP bug.
well on sunrunner if you join a guild you would at least expect a group of 5 to 10 just that we have very large hunting groups in excess of 20 people. I also appreciate your side of the coin and there needs to be a phased multiplier so the experience in the 15+ groups is much lower but maintains the reasonable experience in the lower groups.
And yes we did clear the fort out, many times over a 6 hour period. We got the "Fort Tusken Complete" message after working the spawn to get the champion and masters, then it reset and we worked the spawn again.
