Being a leader goes behind the lines as well as out on the front. Yes PvP happens fast, it also can endure for many hours. Being a SL can reduce attrition rates. The ability to even out the wounds is by far the most under-rated ability as it can keep your group at peak performace by reducing attrition fromfighting wave after wave of cloned enemies. Retreat should have its named changed to Charge as it GREATLY increases the value of melee professions in PvP due to the difficulty to close the gap. Group Terrian Negotiation is also one of those under-rated skills as it keeps your group highly mobile. I will admit my doubts sometimes of the group melee/ranged defense. An easy solotion is to have the SL abilities applied to the My Skills Mods window for all in the group so they could see their modified stats. Other than that you'd have to play test to make sure its taking effect. But other than that I find being a SL greatly increases my group in PvP as well as PvE

I'm an experienced squad leader, all the way back since SWG beta, and here's my views on the current profession and it's skills and bonuses...

I chose squad leader, because I've always leadgroups well... pve or pvp. Having that tag definately helps you earn more respect, IF you're actually a competant leader. Do no get squad leader and lead groups if you can't handle a bunch of rowdy players. There's a definate natural talent to leading that you must have.

Here's my views on the skill and bonus benefits:

The group defense bonus doesn't appear to be noticibly at all, I couldn't even tell if they actually coded it in or it just prints text entry out on your skill bonuses. They should show in the combat tab that any defense bonus is doing something... like "Bob misses you due to your ranged defense bonus." or something, anything to let us know it actually works.

Most of the active skills use too much mind.. and fail often, in which the benefit isnt that drastic in the first place.

System messages are nice.. but they should be COLORED different, so people actually notice them.

Summary:

For PVE: squad leader bonuses aren'ttoo bad for fighting mobs. They do some justice in helping take down mobs with better management. It's also a less chaotic environment in which people can pay attention easier to system messages and any skills you wish to enable in combat. It also helps a competant leader get a group of players to join him more easily, and have a better chance of them trusting the squad leader. For PVE, I give squad leader a thumbs up if you enjoy only doing large PVE groups. It's helpful and keeps players together easier.

For PVP: squad leader bonuses and skills have a very low benefit for pvp. Why? PVP is FAST. People die VERY fast in pvp. The defense bonuses seem to almost do nothing. Even if you had time to fire up a successful skill bonus such as rally, the benefit just doesn't seem to be worth it. It -could- possibly change the outcome on a rare occation, but the chances seem very slim that it will really help much at all.

Well, after a long run, I'mdebating if I should drop squad leader as I'm nearing high level in my weapon. I nearly maxed squad leader in beta, and so far in final I'm a Tactician with full ranged support. It just doesn't seem worth it if you're wishing to ultimately pursue PVP after you've leveled up. The only part I'll regret is just losing the name... a simple name tag. That seems to be the one and only true good thing about squad leader, is people can look at the tag and go "ok I'll follow him, he must know what he's doing." I wish I could keep the name tag, and have no group benefits, but unfortunately you cant (unless you dont mind losing 6 pts to keep the base title.)

Once again, We shouldn't HAVE to make each and every member setup their chat so that it shows up a diffrent color. It should be a feature of the SL....unless of course you think its fine the way it is?

sure iam ok with it, cause i dont like to have another SL to colorification my personal settings, i cant know every groupmembers UI settings to decide which color is the best for all, every individum has to set its own color for its own UI

its stupid to think "one color fits all" some peoples got problems with different colors, colorification is a peronal thingie , not a SL thingie

if colorization is SL controlled, we dont need a colorification, cause in every single squad u will find someone who cant read the actual colorsettings well

if a SL is able to tell the squad "make an /assist RuLoR button" u are also able to tell them "colorize the squadsystem msg" as well

my squad and i , we are all have different colors because we are different personalities and react different if we see colors

even different Grafik cards and differnt highdetail settings are a problem, cause some skys are green on my screen and yellow on the other

what color should i take to get a "good" color for all ?

we are about 10 peeps, what about a 20 peep squad ? problems are doubled

color should beselected by every single player, not by SL

just my thoughts
