It occured to me two things, one since the PA's leader is normally the leader of PA events then it would be the best chance for a SL to be effective.

Also it fits the role of a PA leader to focus on supporting his members then on being in the fray. Last point is that sadly only a PA leader can use a SL effectively since it is rare anyone else would get as many chances to lead large groups.

I have had guilds/PAs where the leader is not necessarily the "battle leader". They are more of a figurehead and political/social leader - they are a manager making sure all is running well. Many PAs delegate the "squad leader" type of position to another capable individual of rank.

In TGi (The Galactic Irregulars) we have a councel of nine, but none of lthem are Squad Leaders, though one of the councelers still likes to lead hunts, and everyone takes their turn planning a hunt.

Basically, if the person who planned it doesn't want to, I take over the roll as leader. Regardless, I get the pink name so I can applly crappy stats.

Not being leader sucks because I can't use the only non-broken command, /sysgroup, without treading on other people's proverbial toes.

I'm a PA leader AND a squad leader! I did want a unique profession not many people have, and one that matches the role I have in my PA, that being the leader. It just made sense to me so I went that route. Even though it's the worst/broken/weakest profession in the game,I know evenutally.. 6 months.. 1 year.. 2 years, 5 years... SL will be fixed and will probably be an amazing profession...sometime.

I became a Squad Leader because, yes, I though, in battle, it befit the role of Guildmaster...

Of course, now that I'm no longer in charge of DotA, I still am a SL... hm...

I started a guild with a friend. Since I am a Squad Leader I handle all the tactical parts(Battles). While he takes care of the business end.

I became a SL when my roommate and I formed -LAN-. Im a SL because Im in charge of it.

I may drop it, though. I mean, its really great roleplaying, but the more I think about it, the less I like it. I love leading hunts and all, but I have 2 officers in my PA who like leading hunts just as much and have no SL skills whatsoever. And many people in my PA prefer to have THEM along, since they have Doctor and COmbat Medic skills, which actually do something.

I dunno. I really want to stick it out for the changes, but why wait 2 more months when I could build up a bank 900K of SL xp tonight in case this class is ever anything worthwhile?

Generations (the guild I belong to) was formed long before I joined but that is not the only reason for me being not the PA-Leader: As SL I see myself as combat-character whereas guild-leaders are more politically inclined... And that is how it will work out as our guild-leader is apt to pursue the new politician-profession (he has to be if we want to have a city of our own).
In my opinion therefore PA leader=Squad Leader should be more the exception than the rule - just as in real life: statesman != military captain (usually at least)

even as a PA assistant lead I don't use any LEADING in my SL tree, it's kinda moot what we do in guild hunts. We have strong battleplans, so generally we know what we're doing when the **edit** hits the fan. Personally I too am looking at dropping SL in favour of a more finished class in the Ranger. Supports IMO better then we can, and actually has working specials.
