Thread: Report Revision
This evening and throughout the day tommorow, I will give in to myself (and only myself), to revise the September report and insert as many of the new things as I can. I will also completely remove most of the quotes and the original "new SL abilities" post at the top. I will end up writing basically an entirely new report (shoot me now, plz kthxbye).
I will make one thing clear before I even open MS Word: This is the final report they will receive from me, personally, until a wave of changes finally decides to come in. Strike 3, you're out, so I hope they at least swing at the ball this time. This isn't a high school english paper you can copy and paste off encyclopedia.com (come on, you all do it), this takes real time, real effort, and a lot of editting to communicate what we want to in a positive, effective matter. And, as to be expected, things will be missed, misinterpreted, and so on ... that's why we have to do a lot of editting.
Expect me to post this tommorow evening sometime, I have work tonight else I'd do it tonight.

No idea how you can handle this job.

I completely beg to differ. I keep it primarily because I look to become a Public Relations guy at a MMPORG company one day (i.e. Sanya of DAoC, Q-3PO or TH here, etc.) ... so the experience is good.

Vem, I hope for your sake that you NEVER need to apply your experience of submitting reports into apparent oblivion at any future "real" job....But I wish you luck in that endeavor, anyhow. ![]()
Good luck developing the State of the Profession report. Even without a previous dev response, you should be able to put together something nicely. A guy managed to make one for the Jedi profession--you ought to have a little more to work with!
I don't want to tell you how to do your job, because you're already doing it far better than I would....at least more organized than I'm capable. But a few things I want to mention: Make sure to list explicitly the suggested ideas for new skills and functionality for Squad Leader. Try not to get bogged down in justifications against the "people handler" mentality. Really, don't bother trying to justify AGAINST anything--our profession is broken enough, don't leave any room for nerf!!
Heck, as Squad Leaders we've managed to take the most ridiculous "elite" skill in the game, /sysgroup, and effectively use it as our only completely working and useful ability.Sad, but true. So ANY skill we manage to get, I'm sure the true leaders among us will find ways of making the best out of it. Remember that this is a "state of the profession" report, so I'd suggest you begin by giving the current "state" of our profession which is basically: Borked profession + a few good people who know how to roleplay = We aren't TOTALLY humiliated. Basically, a squad leader is no better off than someone with the "helper" flag turned on...worse, really, because if I WEREN'T a Squad Leader I could bea Combat Medic, Doctor, Bounty Hunter,Ranger, Creature Handler(even Chef's few working foods are more effective buffs than the ones we have) or any other profession that actually makes a difference in the game.
Basically, lets let the devs know what we DO want, I think we've effectively communicated what we DON'T want (PC puppets). You have all our support, Captain, let us know if you need a hand with any of this, but otherwise I'm looking forward to seeing your work and I'm holding out hope that we will be seeing the improvements we need pretty soon. I just hope all the good stuff like /healmind isn't already doled out to the other professions before we get a chance to be useful.
