Ahh,

The true joys of being a SquadLeader...

1: Having to answer 20 or 30 tells a day asking if Im leading a hunt tonight (My Personal Favorite)

2: Trying to figure out if a skill is actully working.... correctly.

3: We DO have the best Titles in the game personally.

Just wish I could get the Title of Commissar-Colonel

4: Being able to get a group headed the right direction, even after group chat crashes!!

5: Being able to keep players in the fight instead of stopping to harvest with the carfully plotted use of /rally!

6: The ability to change what you yell for some commands /setsteadyaim Drop the Bas**rds!!

7: Adding idiots to your ignore list after you get back from running 3.3k to the camp site, and then discovering that they were trying to break the group up while you were gone!

8: Being able to yell at a player to not all ways lay prone near the agrro creature or NPCs where everyone can see it.

9: Not having to fight to get exp finally!! But actually leading the group while being able to watch out for enveloping maneuvers from your opponent.

10: The shear joy of trying to track down other SquadLeaders so you dont have to pay to get training. Got to love that one there.

Now if any of you out there would like to add to this list of things you love about being a SquadLeader, please ffeel free too. But lets start our own thread on this one and send that to the Devs along side the Next Report.

1.The absolute love I get from those in group that had to drop scout skills. "Weeeeeeeeeeee. look at me! I can RUN up hills!"

2. Being saluted due to title alone

3. The fact that no raid on Imp bases is even worthwhile without an SL to lead it

4. We're rare. Who wants to be Commando #49876 on the <fill in name> Server

5. When a disagreement happens people tend to look to Sl's for a fair judgement. I have actually had people fly me onto other planets just to act as a judge in arguments. Lots of potential for that stuff with player cities coming

6. The instant friendlyness Sls show each other in game. Even if they differ in faction it still stays polite and friendly

I have to reiterate that. Every SL I've met in game (and here, for the most part ) has been so nice and cool. I've had overt imps come up to me while I was overt (after sending me tells) and ask if they can put me on their friends list.

1) Listining to n00bs say "how do I do that?" after I use the /formup command.

2) "/sysgroup You have unlocked your Force Sensitive Charecter. Congradulations!" `nuff said.

3) Putting a rainbow of colors in the middle of other char's screens with your beautiful group messages.

4) The fact that I will probably never get used to saluting back.

I personally like using /rally as a threat to the other players in the group to behave. Sort of the fun thing about /rally is how people can't mask their scent, forage, harvest, resuscitate, sit....

My personal favorite item was how I could never find a single Squad Leader ever who coudl train me. I paid for every single one of my SL skills...

Rather new to the Squad Leader thing myself and only a dabbler at that, but man. I play with a small covert rebel cell out of a roleplay heavy community. While I'm not the unit leader (who isn't a squad leader but more just a charismatic character type) I'm definitely the grizzled Sarge type. Am I the only Squad Leader that thinks being Nick Fury in Star Wars is the coolest thing ever?* Running around with a sleeveless Tantel chestplate on, muscles bulging, barking out orders and playing short-stop and coach to the team all at the same time. Squad Leader, even if it isn't the most 'effective' class, is certainly one of the most fun. For me at least.

*(Imaginea Sgt. Nick Fury/Older Han Solo as played by Sean Connery and you've got my character Mandashdown.)

yup, I agree with all that, I especially like being saluted where I go, and be the the man the other follow

My hearth flutter when they say " ok, let's listen to the leader ;/cheer"

Want to hear about the old Kudaark? huh?
Vangeance he seeks from those who took away his Loved One
But never an innocent or a helpless one will he harm
For he is a Protector, fearsome and fearless in battle
In the name of Freedom he sways his Justice
The Purifying Flame burns within him, a Kuun-Lan, he is...

I agree with the /tell part. Not only do I get 5-10 tells within the first ten minutes of logging on about groups, I usually have a couple emails asking me if I'm going Krayt Hunting etc.

Also, you're right about people respecting you. Not so much after the patch, but before it, my word was almost god, people respected me extremely, and for the the most part still do.

Finally, best part about being a SL is the money. I've never read anything about this on the forum, but the other day after Krayt Hunting, I got tipped about 100k (it was a group of 10 people in the same guild, I was the only one not in it). It was pretty cool, I've made about 1 Million creds in total from tips.

Well here are some of mine

1. Having noobs come up to you and say I've never seen a Master Squad Leader Before. You must fight a lot. (that was last night)

2. Being asked at least once aday 'What's a Commissar?' (my days before master SL)

3. Having SL's constantly asking for training. Which Iwill always do if they come to me. C'mon guys I spent a lot of creds for this title how bout a /tip ?

4. typing /rally , /rally, /rally over and over trying to get the group rallied only to realize you have almost incapped yourself.

5. Crawling really fast and having people ask you 'How do you crawl so fast?' I usually tell them it is a special burst crawl ability attachment I found.

6. Using /retreat for no apparent reason but to get a group member to comment on how fast they just went.

7.Using /volleyfire to save my @ss when i get aggrod by a warping mob

My #1 Joy though is raiding Anchorhead and enjoying the +30 group defenses. It really does work! Now if they would just double that

If any of you play Warhammer 40k, there's a troop type named Commisar. Their job is to shoot the leader of a unit and take over if he shows the slighest sign of weakness. when I saw that as a title, I almost dropped over. Personally, I do enjoy getting groups together to go to Ft. Tuskin. and leveling everything in the place. I've taken a more support role, by healing and by providing cover fire for TKA's I have organized a few Bestine raids, and Dantooine hunting parties. The fact that I do get respect from others for what my role in the game is is cool. You are right, people respect SLs. not for the "skills" but for the "leading" which I think most of us non Holo Cronies are.

Wow, I wouldn't mind getting some tells/tips.

Granted I'm not master (it shouldn't take long... ) but I've never had a group of people ask me to lead. When I ask, and get in, though, they always comment. Good comments, of course.

Really, my greatest asset as a Squad Leader hasn't been any of my Squad Leader abilities (not by a long shot, actually--psh, my Pistoleer double-tap is generally more appreciated, but only by "noobs" who can't do 600dmg shots). My greatest asset as a Squad Leader is the experience I gained by running with the Helper flag on, the knowledge that I've gleaned from the boards, and a little good common sense.

There've been quite a few times when I've joined groups not even knowing what they intended to do and said, "Hey, if noone else is a Squad Leader, could you /makeldeader me so I can gather a bit of experience?" It's usually accepted and I take the back seat in the leadership department. However, after I kick in a few of my Sl skills (most notably, giving everyone the camp coords through /sysgroup) people start paying attention to what I have to say. By the end of the group, I have usually garnered for myself a lot of respect and salutes, if not having managed to ascend to the actual role of Squad Leader. But at the end of the day is it the /rally that people were impressed with? (No, the only reaction that ever gets is "What's that flag by my name? ...Is that a good thing? ...Ack! Why can't I harvest?!") Is it the terrain negotiation or other passive boosts? Nope, noone's even noticed that. Is it the /volleyfire, or /formup, or /retreat?? Again, rarely even noticed.

No no, the thing that stands out is that I was the person who stepped up and actually had answers to questions. I'm not a powergamer by any stretch--I've yet to master any combat profession. However I consider myself to be a well-informed player, and by answering players questions, participating in good discussions, and keeping a level head in battle...THAT is why I'm looked to as a leader. I only recently started wearing my Squad Leader title (I didn't want to paint a target on myself in HQ attacks) and my the abilities given by the Squad Leader profession are hardly worth anything if they work at all, but I proudly carry the title of Leader with or without any dev assistance!

The saddest statement of all, however, is that I am seriously considering dropping Squad Leader in favor of Combat Medic... Not because I want to be a Combat Medic, but because I believe that would be a better way to lead squads.

the only reaction that ever gets is "What's that flag by my name?

My favorite reaction was, "Whatahell! Everyone has a TEF!!!"
