Thread: top-down view for SLs

How's this for a suggestion: you know when you place a house or installation, you get a top-down view that allows you to have a better overview of the area. How about expanding the use of that view to Squad leaders? I know I always have trouble keeping the big picture when fighting large animals, especially in mountainous areas, where your view is always limited, no matter how far you zoom out. An overview like this would help coordinate your troops.

This might be something we can include into our "scout/pointman" idea. It might be a little code heavy to get it to work but I think if they implimented an expanded system it would make things a little more interesting. Highlighting enemy installations, enemy troops, enemy players, non factional NPCs; everything moving in realtime. I would be happy with just a radar or survey type box with little dots on it... but this might be interesting.

BTW, nice to see ya again GTO. (if this is the same GTO from SWGX)

Well the reason I brought up the coding... is because I was thinking about using this in the scout/pointman proposal. This proposal entails the SL delegating a scout/pointman to go ahead of the rest of the group and then SL would be able to see this players radar. But with your idea I thought of using the topdown view. I'm not sure how hard it would be to display what that player is seeing to the SL.

Hit Ctrl - M it brings up an overhead map that displays right there in the middle of your screen. Complete with colored arrows for everybody.

I like this idea. I think it would kick some serious ass if the devs would even implement a sort of mini-strategy game along with it, where you can click on players and groups of players to issue orders to and make waypoints for and stuff...but I'm probably just dreaming...

the very same. Pretty sure my name is still unique on the net.

Reason I suggested it is because the view mode is already there. It currently only gets activated when you use a deed, but I think it wouldn't take months of coding to expand it to include the interface on-screen.

TK: you can't select the big red arrow attacking your little green arrows. And if there's two targets, you can't see which arrow is which. Overheadperspective would be a lot more useful then a bunch of arrows in your screen. If you want that you can just use your radar.

Have that overhead view be a satellite image that costs money to use.

I would rather use the Ctrl-M only because it's a lot easier for me to see my target in the main view than if I was overhead, but maybe I'm just used to the 3D view.
