Hey everyone. I've got all the neccessary skills, prerequesites, and xp to become a Squad Leader, but reading what I have and talking to people it sounds like it might not be worth it and I should spend my points somewhere else. I wanted to hear some feedback on this. As of now I'm a Teras Kasi Novice and gaining Medic and Scout skills(maybe going to Creature Handler). Any help would be great. Thanks, Ewwa Og've of Naritus.

Seriously, Squad Leader is not an enjoyable profession right now. If you are not absolutely dedicated to being a SL, you should hold out for Bounty Hunter or keep working on Pistoleer or Rifleman or whatever. There is no quantifiable reason to become a Squad Leader at this point in time.

In fact no one can answer your question. Squad Leader is not like any other elite profession. You won't get rich from it, nor become Jedi automatically, nor get more faction points, nothing like that. It is everything but selfish. It is hard work to care about your comrades during battle because your group takes up 75% of your concentration and time. You won't automatically become a perfect group leader due to SL skills. There are yet some changes considered bySL correspondant to make SL more balanced, fairer, whatever...

I am Novice Ranger, Novice Pistoleer, Novice Squad Leader now and I feel more sympathies with SL because up to now I did a single Tusken Fort raid as group leader (SL), coordinating our actions in group (which goal next, where is a warlord, let's camp and wait for spawn, and so on). Someone told me later: 'You know, Spro', you are using the /sysgroup command quite well, I wish everyone did', and I felt honored by that.

For that feeling I am becoming Squad Leader and to help to reach our goals (rebels).

No, no, no, no, no.

I'll be honest, as soon as I made Squad Leader I was so depressed that I almost dropped my entire skill tree (I'd given up Novice Weaponsmith to get enough points, so yeah, I was ticked off). But I am sticking with it under the basic premise that I can still level Rifleman, and when they DO fix Squad Leader I will already have all of the skills bought. Though I think "fix" is a little bit of an understatement. Perhaps "completely re-create" would be a better description.

Okay, here is a response based on what Squad Leader should become (aka: ignoring the current state of SL):

Squad Leader will not (and should not) be an "Uber" profession... your job is to boost the abilities of your group, so you will never get the "Oooh, nice hit" or "Thanks for the heal" type message.

I (personally) see the Squad Leader as a profession that makes the group's hunting,as a whole, much smoother (kind of like a good Bard in EQ).

There are some other schools of thought, though, on what the Squad Leader should become (Faction Pet Class comes directly to mind, which is a horrible idea IMHO) so I think you should hold out judgement based on the Dev repsonse we get, so you may want to wait a few weeks

I want it straight from the horse's mouth! Is Squad Leader worth the skill points? I am in a reb PA that is starting to do a little more PVP but mainly we hunt. We do not have a SL in the PA. The way SL is know would it be worth it to obtain this skill. I have only seen SL skills used one time on Naritus and thatwas on an Imp Raid on a Player City. Any feedback would be appreciated.

My opinion is that right now SL is a tough SP buy. The +25 (+30 at master) range defense and melee defense are good passive skills. /formup is a tier I skill that removes stun and dizzy on squadmates (not pets.) /rally is okay we think but we don't know what it does. Regardless it prevents docs from rezzing, scouts and rangers from harvesting or anyone from sitting. /boostmorale will balance wounds (not damage) on the three primary stats (HAM) but not secondaries amongst the entire group. /retreat gives a 6-10 sec burstrun that does not affect you. /volleyfire makes everyone in combat take a regular non-special shot at your target. /steadyaim applies an aim modifier to the next shot someone takes (it modifies your entire group.) Its not too bad for the commandos and BH with LLC in your group. Hmm. Group TN is good for hill climbing in combat but out of combat you are better off using a mount or vehicle. Burst run efficiency just reduces the cost of burstrunning. It doesn't reduce the delay or increase your speed. Finally, you have sysmessage. This pops a system message up for your group. Its nice but could be accomplished with a chat channel, groupspeak, spatial yells, etc.

So, there you are. Is that worth your SP investment? If all goes well in 3 months nobody will have any clue what I was talking about above.

Worth it?

Depends on how you want to play it. There are really only three useful abilities in SL: /sys, /formup and /steadyaim. SL is a playstyle more than anything else. You have to want to almost role-play the position in order to get much out of it.

Personnally, I have the best times in this game when I am leading a group on an objective. Directing combat with /sys and other chats.. curing the obnoxious Dizzy and Stun effects...I thoroughly enjoy it. But at the same time I dont' have a whole lot of other abilities of my own. I am a partial carbineer and not much else. So my solo ability is quite lacking and thus when I'm online and most of my PA isn't...I have a hard time finding something to do.

So in that view, SL could be a bit of a sacrifice for you to your PA. You are really just going to have to play the part and see if it fits your personality and gaming style. Thats really the only way to know.

And as Dilune said above, we should be seeing a revamp in a couple months so everything could change by then.
