Man, yanno what's kinda sad?

For the past three weeks or so, if not a full month....

I completely forgot Squad Leader even EXISTED. I saw someone with the tag and promptly checked the Skills menu, then proceeded to say the topic name here.

So... what's it like being Squad Leaders, anyways? (I know more about JEDI then I do about SL's o__O)

It's a borked prof, but those who like it love it. It's got a few really great abilities and +30 Melee/Ranged Defense mods for an entire group at Master Level never hurt anyone.

I was leadingone of 3groups into the Death Watch bunker last friday. Only ones who died in my group were the ones who went LD in the middle of the battle and got left behind. Until we got split up later trying to rescue one of the other groups that is.. I had to spend the rest of the time sitting on top of the bunker watching the group and clearing their dizzy/stuns. One of the best times online I've had in a long time. But mostly it's your personal abilities to control and guide a large group that helps, not what you get in terms of actual game dynamics/commands.

I just got it a week and a half ago and I am not sure how I ever lived without it. Many say it sborked but the stuff it has is strong enough for me. +30 ranged and melee defense to group members. +60 group terrain negotiation. Ability to remove stunn/dizzy constantly from group members. And if so desired grant permanenet burst run to everyone as well. It is currently best run as a bot which is unfortunate but it is invaluable and neato.

Btw, I prefer the title Commisar.

Squad Leader isn't borked. It's the most powerful support profession in the game. It removes the Dizzy/KD advantage that Melee players have over ranged players and it removes the kiting advantage that ranged players hold over melee players.

You may not be able to play Squad Leader like the rest of the professions in the game, but Squad Leader is the key to a small group being able to defeat a group 2-4 timesits size.

Let's face it... what Squad Leader does, it does very well. Speaking as a Squad Leader at heart myself, I LOVE being able to give my groupmates the Retreat! speed bonus, clear Stun/Dizzy, and give a +25 Ranged/Melee Defense bonus to all (I don't have Mobility because most of us have speeders and don't usually need Terrain Neg).

But the profession does need to be reworked with new, effective specials. We've got Terrain Neg, Defense, Retreat!, Melee/Ranged Defense, and Boost Morale (which I don't use), and /sysgroup (I <3 sysgroup!). For the 72 SPs we need to just qualify for Novice (almost as many SPs as mastering Medic), we don't get enough specials, imho. I love what we can do, I just want to be able to do more. )

Yeah I went and grabed this profession up not to long back, and have not looked back. Even though we do not get a whole lot of love in game right now. One group of people who do love us is jedi, well in my guild any how. Healing there stun and dizzy has saved there butt many a time from TKA/BHs.

Its a matter of tradeoffs in my opinion. If you are concerned with your skill points overmuch you most likely should not be a SL. But the way I look at it, everytime I am grouped I have the same effect of giving everyone in my group a +30 ranged defense, +30 melee defense, and +60 terrain negotiation skill tape. In addition I also give them permanent burst run and remove stun/dizzy every 2 seconds from everyone at once. So if you look at it from a narrow point of view, yes its expensive. if you look at it from a group point its pretty cheap indeed. Anyway, that the way I look at it.
