Thread: Idea Officer Uniforms

Hi,
I think the Squad Leader should be a real Leader in PvP, an officer in a group of soldiers. The CURB will bring us some new faction armors, but i think there should be the option for the Squad Leader to wear an officer uniform instead of letting the SL running around like a common soldier. This uniform could give some nice boni to the squadleader and his group, but making him more vulnarable for the enemy by bringing all attention to him in his uniform and not giving him any protection with the uniform.
That would bring a lot more feeling to PvP, the group would be forced to take care of its SL.

Well in real wartime situations now adays the commanding officer tries to look as much like a normal soldier to prevent snipers from taking shots at them. Remember Forrest Gump when Lt Dan told Bubba and Forrest not to salute him? That is the reason why.

Also a SL may not necessarily be an officer, he could be just a sargeant tough guy leading his platoon.

Personally I don't want to advertize to anyone in PvP that I am a SL because an incapped/dead SL is a useless SL.

Nah, I think we are more useful when dead: don't have to worry about those pesky dizzy-effects and we can still use /sys :smileytongueif I remember correctly)

Additionally, a SL might not be in any standing army at all, but is a leader of a group of specialists that work as hired soldiers or are a part of some secret government agency (i.e. John Clark of Rainbow Six or Hannibal from the A-Team).

The Imperial Officers in their ST-Armors can easily identified with their Shoulderpad...
I dont think, it should be realistic in that way. Forest Gump wasnt born on Tatooine.
It would bring tension into PvP, and it would give the SL the opportunity to feel like a real Squad Leader.
I mean, the SL wouldnt need to wear an officer uniform. He could keep wearing an armor, but the uniform could give useful boni, with the disadvantage making him easy to identify as the groups SL. In addition to that the boni (of course) should only be granted within 50 or 100m around the SL, avoiding SL to be used as a bot.

Our guild was discussing how to use different color palletes for composite armor. We decided to use different colors for the biceps (Depending on the guild rank), but then we realized that the enemy would go for the leader who stands out, if that were the case. But the way I see it is this. Rebels may want to not stand out but Imperials would. All Rebel soldiers wear the same uniforms types with no distinct coloring. As for Storm Troopers, some of them have different shoulder colors. I actually do think a SL uniform would be cool. Their should be distinct uniforms for almost every proffesion. But if they dont ever implement SL uniforms, you could always improvise. For example those desert command jackets look pretty cool for SL's, and you could put skill modifiers on it. I may want to post a picture of what a Squad Leader can look like in-game. It would add some more RP value.

I remember back during the first few months after launch. It seemed every single Squad Leader wore a Dress Uniform Jacket...

It was kinda our unspoken uniform. ^_^

I suppose that a uniform is an interesting idea, but I don’t believe that it is practical, especially if wearing it is a prerequisite for a SL to apply his/her skills. Remember that a SL is a group leader. There’s more to a leader than a fancy uniform. Not all leaders wear a uniform or fight under a particular flag, nor should they be required to. Because all of the professions are universal, (ie: Rebel/Neutral/Imperial) implementation of a dress code would be impossible.

I do, however, like the idea of specific articles of clothing adding skill bonuses... something other than volley fire, that is. In that respect, it becomes the choice of the individual. But let's face it, clothing is not going to give away the fact that you're a SL... you don't just yell, "Form up you slimeballs!" and "Stay on target!" to get your picture in the paper. They know who you are.

Thats why i said it would be a nice option, to have the possiblility to wear a useful uniform instead of an armor.
