Just out of curiosity, are there any fixed changes that are coming to SL in the near future? Somebody in my guild mentioned that there were, but I have been unable to find any on the net. I figured asking here would probably net the best results. What's the straight dope?

Any changes are gonna be in the combat sandbox alpha test, which is under NDA so unless you are in it you won't know. We should find out soon enough though.

SL will be updated in the CURB
and SL is scheduled for a revamp after the CURB is complete.
plus you will see bugs and fixes for all professions including SL in the run up to the CURB and the GCW updates.

I thought I caught a note about Squad Leaders and issuing a command to a group will TEF the Squad Leader. No more hiding in a structure and issuing commands. I do not know where exactly I read this, possibly on the TEF/GCW proposed changes.

What you read concerns the remove of the TEF system... If I remember correctly,a combatant (non-PvP-enabled)Squad Leader's active abilities (form-up, rally) will not work on a Special Forces (PvP-enabled) character. Make sense?

yeah that is correct... if you want to help Special Forces - you need to be Special Forces and therefore attackable. Also figure to see that all SL abilities will be limited to max combat range soon. SL-bots are not what the devs wanted.

Using this diagram, as a Squad Leader, you can only give bonuses to players of the same level or the levels below you.
Imperial PvP-Enabled --> Imperial PvP-Disabled --> Civilian/On Leave <-- Rebel PvP-Disabled <-- Rebel PvP-Enabled
For example: You are a Rebel PvP-Enabled Squad Leader leading a group made up of Rebel PvP-Disabled, Civilian, Rebel PvP-Enabled, and Imperial PvP-Disabled players. The Rebel PvP-Disabled, the Rebel PvP-Enabled and the Civilian players will all gain the SL bonuses. The Imperial PvP-Disabled players will recieve no bonuses at all.

Not even the passives? And by logic what happens if a PvP disabled Imperial is grouped with a PvP enabled Imperial, will the PvP enabled guy not even get the defense bonuses and terrain negotiation?

As far as I know at this point, Passives do not work. And the line of help only moves down not up, so the PvP-Enabled would not get the bonuses of the PvP-Disabled.

so the first guy to die in any PvP battle will be the SL. That makes us a very obvious and juicy target.

As in Real Life doctrine of combat - take out the leadership first!

In my opinion the changes do more harm then good for squad leaders. Ive always thought of squad leaders as commanders or generals directing combat, and usualy commanders dont charge into battle. A squad leader is a self sacrificing profession, Im giving up my skill points and defence for the sake of the group, something very few players would consider doing. These changes will only increase the numbers of sl bots in houses. At least now I can run with my group, call out targets, direct the fight, and have enough points left to fight if I so choose. Cause I know once I start attacking I put my group at risk.

The change was put in place to prevent "covert" SLs from hanging around in PvP battles giving bonuses to their "Overt" team. Also keep in mind that there will still be the same TEF that prevents you from entering houses while in combat.
And we are working on fixing the SL range, so you have to be near your team to give them bonuses.
