Thread: Small, yet useful idea for the Squad Leader revamp

I usually use this macro while my squad is approaching the target or while in combat:

/sysgroup \#FF00FF\ "Target is %TT";

This way the ones not in TeamSpeak know which target they have to concentrate fire upon. So, it would be useful that we had one command, let's call it "designateTarget", that allows us not only to "tell" which is the next target, but to set it.

It would not change soldiers's current target, though, but add it as next target. So, they just have to press Tab and they are ready to obey the order.

What do you think? And it would be really easy for the devs to implement it! :-)

Great Idea /thumbsup

I like it. I've allways wanted to be able to make the entire group target one thing but many argue that this would intrusive. Your idea gives the best of both worlds. You can tell them what to target and you make it very easy for them to do so. Big big thumbs up here.

The problem is a lot of gamers do not want the SL to act as a "puppet master". Way back in the early days the devs came here with a lot of ideas to improve SL, like cease fire, fire at will and offensive and defensive stance. I really did like these ideas as it would have helped to control the group but that is where the problem is, there is a fine line between too much or too little. Your idea is cool for sure, but there isn't always just a primary target.

So instead what could be done is to paint targets that are primary and secondary. People don't have to shoot at these, but they are high priority targets, so add some accuracy and damage bonuses to this. Secondary targets could just be a small accuracy bonus since its not as important as primary.

Either would be good for me. The reason I like this idea more than just being able to change everybodies target is because the squad have to change target manually, it just makes it easier for them to do so.

I'd love to see the painting targets thing implemented though.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Mailek. There is always unrest in the lesser groups led by a squad leader, that only use the squad leader and don't actually trust the SL to use them. Ultimately, it would come down to something we talked about in another thread where players would have to consent the SL to do something like this. So for the people that don't want to follow orders, yet manage to stay in the group, can just not consent the SL to do anything.

I'm the kind of squad leader that would love this skill, but too many people trust no one but themselves. It would be nice to have stuff like this, and I thought it would be good to implement some kind of consent thing that applies to all SL skills. So, someone in the group can decide to follow all orders or follow none. I won't mind someone that doesn't do what I want them to, but I can't be nearly as effective of a SL if I don't know what orders they will follow and what they won't.

Still, good idea of course.

Thanks to all of you for your support. Mailek and Wystery, you're probably right: the consent idea would easily sort any kind of situation out. :-)

Nevertheless, I am not the kind of squad leader that just gets involved because of the bonuses they receive, but people in my squad are meant to obey orders. Otherwise, they are usually kicked from the group, as many are awaiting for room to get in. When I am just Squad Leader because of the bonuses but someone else is leading the group, then I decide whether I trust him and whether to join that group, but if I do, I just do what I am told to do.

Of course it depends on the situation (if we go hunting, I just don't care, but if we go PvP, then it really matters that we play as a team). Respect is something that you usually win in time, battle after battle. What I can tell you for sure is that I am not giving the bonuses again to someone that just tried to win his own war ;-)

A good state of mind nonetheless. I'm pretty tolerant, and in fact at the time, the guild i was in invited me because of my squad leader skills. They knew I wouldn't waste their time, so they listened. I'm the opposite. PvE I can take more command, but PvP there are too many elements for me to concentrate on. I can plan strategies to work for everyone, but rarely do we have so few opponents that I can do everything. Still, I make sure those in my group do better in it than on their own without a doubt.
