Thread: More new Ideas for Squad Leaders

Hey all! Just got squad leader and I've been reading the boards a bunch and I agree with all the problems, and I thought I'd add some ideas to the list. This is my first post here, so be nice please

1) In the tactics Tree, maybe at 2 oe 3, the squad leader gets an ability that, using the CTRL-M overlay map, a line is drawn between a squad member and an NPC monster showing who is targeting who, red for enemies and green for allies. This idea probably won't be to effective in small groups, but in larger ones I would think it would be useful, that way a Squad Leader can tell a party member to back out of combat, drawing those attacking him out, or dispersing the enemies' targeting capability around to different party members, or something like that. Of course, I guess you could just look to see who's taking damage, but I think this might make it a bit easier to see.

2) Change the Mobility Tree to, instead of +25 Terrain Nav, then +25 burst speed, to +10 to Terrain Nav and +10 Burst speed each level. Further, at Mobility III, add the following ability:

Deployment: Spend (600-700) mind and Action points and 500 credits at a Shuttle Terminal, and effectively purchase a one-way ticket to any location on the map except city areas and No-Build Zones for you and your squad.

At Master Squad Leader add this ability:

Extraction: Use Deployment but spend instead 1000 credits. Then, at any location other than a No Build Zone or city area, the Squad Leader can activate Extraction again, again costing (600-700) Mind and Action points to call the shuttle to the SL's location and bring the squad back.

With both deployment and Extraction the shuttle leaves as soon as the SL gets on, meaning during Extraction the SL has to be the last man of the team on, or some people are left behind.

Personally I thought this might be kind of balanced, the SL can't really use it too effectively in combat if he's been getting trashed, because of the high pool cost. That goes for both Extraction and Deployment, Deployment if they drop too near like a mission location his pools are to low to be useful, and extraction he might be killed while waiting for his squad to get on.

Anyways, my main concern was #2 up there, I just had this vision of Vietnam Sergeants calling in for a Huey Extraction, or movies like Clear and Present Danger, where the Squad Leader (can't remember the character's name, but played by Willem Defoe) had that chopper guy to move their troops in and out.

Anyways, any criticisms? Comments? Modifications? Suggestions?

There is a similar skill called retreat, which gives burstrun to the entire group except you.

I think the deployment and extraction skills would be very, very cool and useful...

Last week I was with some friends and PA members...one of them discovered a new dungeon we didn't know about. Coordinates were something like -1200 -400 and there weren't any cities close by.

So, I got out my Improved Camp Kit...I told everyone to sit in the chair and warp to 0 0. It didn't work for everyone, so I kept redeploying camps until everyone had teleported. Then I sat in the chair and got together with the group. We headed to our waypoint and saved a lot of travel time.
