Thread: Squad Leader XP Formula Change: Temporary
Sorry, darn boards ate my typing...
Developer response:
The new, newformula is a blend of the previous new and the old.
XP is determined by the amount of XP earned by group members and modified by the group size.
Ideally at some point it would be nice if the group modifier that is used also takes into consideration Squad Leaders commands used, so the more skills you use to help out the group the more XP you earn. This will also help address the AFK skill gains that currently exist. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time and the change was too risky to put in this mornings hot-fix.
technically yes, that means it's temporary... sort of.
that response says to me they have no idea how low a rate we now gain at even after today's "fix of a fix". That response says to me "we're gonna leave it as it is for now and then MAYBE some time in the future we'll make it so you get a bonus for using SL skills..."
sorry Cap'n... that's terrible (on their part, not yours)
as almost all posts today have stated, the current system gets you WAAAAAY too little xp. Either that rate needs to be bumped up or the requirements in our trees need to be lowered.
as far as pets... I would assume they DON'T increase the combat xp gained (in fact, the work they do causes it do decrease for everyone in the group), but their presence DOES increase our multiplier.
Perhaps that is the problem with the current implementation? the multiplier is being calc'd wrong? or not being applied correctly?
I just posted this on the Correspondent forums:
Thanks for the quick response.
The community is in even more of an uproar than yesterday, though. The new formula drastically has decreased the amount of SL given and is extremely penalizing if your group isn't extremely large. I would suggest either an immediate revamp, revert to the old formula, or posting on my SL forums with some comment or response for my people to work with.

Since the new formula is based on combat XP, which pets don't receive, I would assume it's no factor whatsoever.
Personally, I'm happy about this for solo purposes, but very against it for PC-containing groups. Remember, my personal thoughts are reserved to this board and never given to the Dev's unless specifically asked for.
Well, if pets factor into the multiplier then fantastic. Since you need your group to earn combat xp that's also great becuase you can't solo yourself up with pets. But, I still think its penalizing the SL who is trying to level up his own elite combat profession. Honestly, you are getting NOTHING from SL. Have you seen the defense modifiers for those profs on TC? A pistoleer gets +105 to dodge now (instead of +30.) A rifleman gets +57 range defense and +47 melee defense. Even our +30 mods are a waste now. We don't even have that to give. Yet you can't level both up at the same time (anything you do for one takes away from the other) making you even more of a gimp. This is getting stupid. Reworking CM and the combat classes has now officially left the SL in the dust. We are less than useless! I truly, truly hope that along with xp they rework what we do.
On the line of xp it would be ideal if the SL got xp based on overall xp of the group. Others have mentioned it but I will reiterate. Give us xp based on medical xp, ch xp and combat xp. that way all members of a group contribute to your leveling efforts, not just one side. It also allows an SL to work on leveling his own elite combat class without completely cutting out his own xp (medics heal you, CH tank and you still get some SL xp while you are doing the majority of the combat xp.)
ok I blame myself for this since I used the term in my first post in this thread... but we need to be sure to use the word "modifier" when referring to group size in the calc. The dev said "modified" by group size... NOT "multiplied".
So for all we know, the "modifier" could be something funky like: (#of PCs) + (# of pets / 2) = modifier
modifier * group combat xp = SL xp
so until we know exactly how the "modifier" is being tabulated, we still don't know what they did to mess up our gains.
So I wonder when the fix for the fix for the fix is goin in? ![]()
I just would rather them revert back to the old system until they hire someone that has gone through High Scool Algebra. Then maybe they can get the numbers right.![]()
uggg I am SO tired of complaining.
I vote we just go back to the original xp formula for now these new formulas dont work and are troublesome. PLZ DEVS no more hotfixes. I will be happy when the devs have a bona-fide working system that has been thouroghly tested on the TC before going live.
I've asked them to revert to the original system, but I prolly won't get a reply for a while since it's the weekend.
