If this idea has been brought up already, let me know. I know that both fortifications and overt status have been mentioned in this forum. Why not combine the two and only allow a character's factional status (overt/covert) to bechangedwhile within an SL fort? That would prevent "sneak attacks" where an SL would enter an enemy base and then declare his squad overt as well as give another compelling reason for fortifications. Of course there would still be the standard timer for going covert again.

good thinking. But it would have to be reserved fora bigger level fort. Also it doesnt interfere with neutrals becuase they just wont declare.
maybe it would make more sense if it was a special type of camp that an SL could use like any other SL fort but he had to buy it from a recruiter with FP. That way they get an extra bonus but it kinds of makes more logical sense. Neutrals can still have all their forts and everything but not have to worry about the extra faction forts.

You could also make it so the SL would have to be declared for 30mins-1 h before he is able to grant overt status to group members. Or you could do it like this, grant overt but it does not take effect on the group till 5 mins.

This has absolutely nothing to do with forts. Why not just make it a master-level ability we can use with our camps? Would also keep people from exploiting by doing it in the middle of a fight because you'd have to leave town first.

Soldiers getting ready for war has nothing to do with forts? Anyway... I like the idea of special purchasable faction SL fortifications and the ability to allow people to go overt from such a structure should be a master ability. Definintely only the largerforts should allow this, maybe with a 5 minute timerafter thestructure is placed before the ability can be used (allowing for a communications link from HQ). What I really wish is that Sony would take what it learned from Planetside into account when it redesigns SL both the good and the bad. This isn't the first time they've done large scale warfare in a game.

yeah raroot thats probably a better idea to prevent exploiting and random muggings. Master level sounds like the box for it and it should have to be dont out of town and the best way to ensure that is a camp. I think a short timer should be involved but 5 mins prevents a group from jumping into a fight when necessary.

Ok , the idea of using "forts" to change overt/covert status is the first Fort idea i've heard, that i actually think is a good idea.
But would a fort be necassary ? Could this just be a SL ability that those around him could change status ?

i think a faction bought structure or item of some kind should be necessary. This shouldnt be as simple as just hitting a hot bar key when standing next to a poor unbuffed declared guy in theed.
the idea for a camp to be necessary forced it to be out in the wilderness. Maybe all that is necessary is a FP bought item, a skill in the master box, and a 2 or 3 minute grace period.

Perhaps im paranoid, but wouldn't declareing faction , out in the wilderness be safer ?

that all depends. Since you would be declaring a group you would probably be fine. Unless there is a jedi or 4 running around killing off every overt like on my server.
