Hello everyone, im new to Squad Leader, I just mastered it the other day on my main character and he will also be a master carbineer to go with it. Im just wondering if I could get some direct feedback from the veterans out there on what the best way to pvp with it is. If someone could break down exactly what the specials do, when is the best time to use them ect... that would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

Number one: never run a looping macro. You will end up draining your mind away too fast making you an easy target.

Number two: Form up is your friend. It removes dizzy states from any group member (except you). Its low ham cost so if you see someone dizzy help them out, tehy will come to love you for it.

Number three: Use aliases to get your sys messages into different colors. I have one for red, one for yellow and one for green. It stands out in groupchat and allows you to direct your group better. My groups love it when I say everybody hit %TT in the mind pool. 10 people on one guy on one stat does much better than 10 on 10.

Number four: If you have wounds in your group and you have some TKMs, get them meditating and use boost morale to redistribute the wounds. Its a good way to heal everybody upif doctors don't have any wound packs.

But the thing I cannot stress enough is that /sys command. Communication makes such a huge difference.

My guild has buff bots set up 24/7 so we never pvp without full 9 stat buffs so that part is not too much of an issue, i can have the retreat macro going and were all good, but i need to know exactly how long it lasts.

Also can you elaborate on the sysgroup alias thing and exactly how to set that up.

Thanks

DIV>From the SL FAQ

5.1 How can I use color in the /sysgroup command?

As with many other functions in SWG, you can add color to /sysgroup commands. This can be done by adding the color code to the command line. The format for doing so is as follows.

/sysgroup \#FF0000\ message

This would produce

Squad Leader Vemnox: message

The \# is followed by the hex color code. There are many sites on the internet explaining how this functions so I will just give you the brief of it. This is a hex values for colors broke down into red, green, and blue. Examples

\#FF0000 = red

\#00FF00 = green

\#0000FF = blue

Also notice that there is a space between the p and the \ and before the message you wish to display. Keep in mind that just because you can see a color clearly on your screen, your squad my not.

5.2 Is there a way to shorten my /sysgroup commands?

The /sysgroup command will always default to the text color set on the client system unless you have added the color code. You can however use the /alias command to create your own variation of the /sysgroup command.

/alias rr /sys \#FF0000\

This will create a new command for you called /rr. With the above line, the /rr command would create the same results as if you had entered the /sys command. Both of the following lines would then produce the same results.

/rr this is a test

/sys \#FF0000\ this is a test

You can take this to the next step by aliasing lines of text with the /alias command.

/alias bogie /sys Target is %TT. Everyone open fire!

(NOTE: %TT is a variable which will add the name of your current target)

Boost Morale's useful in lots of situations. Besides healing wounds with TKMs after a fight, if you've got CMs using their mind heal frequently, they'll need you to redistribute the wounds so they can keep doing it. And if someone's burning or diseased and about to die in the next tick because of it, you can save them by spreading the wounds out.

Talk to your group about /sys before you start relying on it, too. There are a fair number of people that aren't even looking at the middle of their screen in combat, and they won't see a thing you say.

What does everyone here think of a squad leader staying covert while the he safely does form up and retreat and boost morale for the rest of the team. This allows the SL to not die instantly so the group can keep getting all of the benefits.

I have tried going both overt and covert and I find that I just die right away, once everyone konws in the squad leader, I drop like a sack of potatoes then the group looses all the specials.

a Squad Leader staying covert is quite cowardly imho. You should be out there as an example leading the troops and not some puppet leader from behind. This way, you can properly target your enemies and allow your forces to advance upon your command. You're not there just for bonuses and to Spam the occasional Retreat so they can burst run faster. The purpose of SL is to control the combat and give your team the edge. Call out the targets with the /sys command using %TT as your targeting tool. Control the battle.

imho leave your map up so you can see the approximate locations of your enemies. Kill the closest ones first, Don't let your people get dragged into Rifleman positions and stay aware of the situation.

Know your enemy as well, and don't be a coward

Taurel, I saw you're SL tag on at the conference. I was impressed. Being an SL is the ultimate sacrifice in my opinion. It takes up so much SP and really hinders you when it comes to your pvp ability. Being an SL, is almost like joining a priesthood...you know selebacy. You're now stateing that you have given many many of your skill points to your group. Ofcourse you've taken alot of flak from many people on kauri, for what I beleive is bull **edit**. And with you becoming an SL it makes me believe even more that you are not the person the kauri forums paints you to be. Congradulations on becoming an SL. If you ever need any ingame advice or a second SL to lead a second squad, send me a tell/email. As for covert squad leading...don't do it. You know as well as i do, you don't need that kind of bad PR. Plus like alot of people have said, its cowardly. No one will ever see me do it. I will win with my group or die with my group, but i will never be the last man standing and covert...besides, i'm not the best pvp'er, more time than not, i'll die pretty early off. If you want to see what a **edit**ty SL is like, observe vorpis. At a couple of New Freedom skirmishes, we all watched him lead his squad covert. It was pathetic and lame. And if you think about it, it doesn't make sence. I'll TEF and take a TEF ganking, no worries. It's like being ambushed, but staying covert and helping out in anyway...no way. Its like a covert medic running around and healing people. Again congrats on your new career move.
