I'll be the first to say I don't know jack when it comes to JTL but I have an idea

One branch in the SL tree would have to do with being a Starfighter Squad Leader giving a bonus to attack/defense/etc with people that are in his group "formation". This will help intigrate SL with JTL and provide SL's something of a "Wing Commander" title (which could also be the title granted at lvl 4).

Every fighting force needs it's leaders, the squad leaders should be it for starfighters as well. This will make the class versital on land or in the air.

Just an idea while the class is being reconfigured anyhow.

The devs have stated that JtLS will be released as is. A standalone space combat twitch game.

They plan on adding in changes to tie in the ground professions with spaceflight some time in the future. So we probably wont see anything at the initial release, we may see some "Squadron Leader" abilities down the road.
